Found about ten derailed train cars near Trona when leaving camp. Coal cars. Coal in huge piles. What a mess. Trucks, axles ripped of some cars, some good mangling of some massive steel parts! I got me a chunk of coal. Wish we spotted it night before, a bucket of coal would have been handy on the campfire it was cold. A couple years back we were tossing explosives we found inside a mine onto the fire (tiny bits at a time!) not much heat from that, just a firework show.

Cool pics! I'm in SoCal and want to go looking for it. Do you have a more exact location or "trail head" to get there??
Also how is the trail getting out to it? Still running stock height and regular tires at the moment.

 

Dud a lot of work for the Trona mines, cool area, but you gotta pick the right time of year to wheel out there, it's either hot or cold AF, and take everything you need with extra gas, not much out there.

Ever done Barker Ranch in Ballarat? Easy trail, and cool to see where the Manson family got arrested.
