Default Busted Chevy Sunday

Here's a couple pics/video of buddies Silverado 1500 with a 6" BDS lift from this weekend...

Turns out choosing a good line is important. With 6 seconds left in the video, you can hear a "ping"...that's the torsion bar popping out, and after he starts to drive off, you can see the torsion bar lying on the ground. That in turn put a HUGE gash in his brake line...I had to hook a strap to the front of the WJ and act as the brakes for the Silverado as we went back down the mountain...That SUCKED....he's got a wee bit of a weight on the WJ...

P.S. Mucho Props to "Rango" for getting the Chevy safely to my driveway where it currently is awaiting repairs.
(That's TWO weekends in a row that the Durango has saved the day!!)

Doesn't LOOK like that much...but apparently it was enough...
(The WJ and the Durango made it through just fine where the Chev got stuck!)

Isn't something supposed to go in that ole??

The thing doesn't fit on the trailer!!!!

But with a 60" highlift (Thanks Ford Exploder guy on Boggers for lending us that) and the ramps sticking out a little bit to accommodate the wheelbase, we got 'er done!

Let the roast begin...

Ouch that sucks. Sorry to hear about your freind breaking. We only had two break down this weekend. One was a starter and the other was a torn fuel line.

THE SAGA CONTINUES:

So....The fella that owns that truck came over on Saturday with a new (New to him anyway) crossmember and torsion bar to replace twisted/missing parts. So, we jack up the truck, and after a little grunting and grinding, the old crossmember is off and the other torsion bar is out. He put the torsion bar in the back of his truck next to the other while he finishes up getting the old bolts out. I'm looking at the two bars noticing the "new" one is about 4 inches shorter then the one we just pulled out...So, I figured we may as well just get to work on his brake situation...Torsion bars will wait for another day...

Another day has come and gone, and as for the Silverado???

So anyway, he came over today with the other wrong torsion bar to match the wrong torsion bar that he already had instead of just buying the right one for an extra hundred bucks over what he spent on wrong parts...Anyway, he doesn't want to wait on the new bracket coming from BDS either, so the current plan is to try to straighten the messed up bracket as best he can, move his crossmember up and drill some new holes in the frame to re-locate it to fit the new shorter torsion bars...

...to be continued...

Why?

Just throwing this out there but if he decides to sell it and the potential owner finds out about the extra holes drilled in the frame it may hurt the resale value.

I wouldn't say that...Maybe the Lifted Fullsize Chevy Silverado 1500 Extended Cab...The only messed up BDS part is the crossmember bracket. And MY BDS lift has always served me well on trails...

Truth be told, I'd rather be running Clayton's Long Arms...but that's more $$$$ than I've got right now...

Later.
