Default 3 wks, 13 trails; Part 4 - Bartlett Overlook 3/29/09

Finally I get some time to type up #4! Trail number 4 is Hidden Canyon Overlook into Bartlett Overlook. I have done another TR on this one before so I won’t describe the whole trail just post some pics. The main reason we did this one again was to show somebody the area... I figured I would make it a little more interesting so we took my Moms new stock 08 Unlimited. Dust was the theme of this trip since we were in the middle of a Utah spring dust storm.

One the way to the trail.

Soon after the beginning of the trail you start over a lunar like landscape of rock.

Some interesting rocks near Hidden Canyon Overlook

Hidden Canyon Overlook

The wind was blowing about 55 mph as we continued on towards Bartlett Overlook.

More Interesting Rocks

The Unlimited actually did better than my Dad's Cherokee on the steep sections on the connector between Hidden Canyon Overlook and Bartlett Overlook. I think I know why now since we just discovered my Dad's has broken rear leaf springs

Squeal those stock tires!

Looking across at Bartlett Overlook

A sandy ledge just above the steep section.

I was surprised in one spot where I had trouble fitting the Unlimited through a tight squeeze that my Cherokee has no trouble fitting through. I guess the Unlimited is a bit wider. We continued on to Bartlett Overlook and found a group of ATV's attempting to eat lunch in the howling winds.

The view from
Bartlett Overlook... notice all the dust in the air!

Looking back across the canyon at Hidden Valley Overlook.

You could hardly see the La Sal Mountains.

We continued down the one harder ledge on Bartlett.

Tombstone Rock in the dust.

Looking at Canyonlands Field in the distance from another random overlook along the trail.

Sand drifting across the road.

Once we finished the trail and got back on the main road the dust storm really picked up!

Monitor and Merrimack Buttes in the dust.

Finally this wall of wind and dust moved through. I didn't get any pics of it because you literally could only see like 25 feet.

I will leave you with a shot of the dust blowing around
CastleValley... where I live.

Another dusty but good day in the books.
