Default Lower front air dam, 84-96 XJ

Hey fellas,

Looking for the lower front air dam trip piece that runs between the two front fenders under the front bumper. The loser that I had painting my fenders managed to lose it somehow...

Please let me know if you have one: mayermatthewr@gmail.com or PM me.

Thanks much,

-Matt

Assuming this is what you are looking for I found a couple.
Pricing sucks though IMO.

I gotta figure this would be a relatively easy boneyard find.

Came across this during my daily stalking of Craigslist.

Dang Ralph, those have to be new listings, I just checked eBay the other day and didn't see them. You're right though, super expensive for what they are.

I have been watching the lists on the local scrap yards and there are a couple of possible candidates, but it's a long drive for a "maybe, yeah it's prob still there"...

Thanks for the links though!

No problem.
Find any more will let you know.
Nobody stalks Craigslist and Ebay like I do. LOL.

EDIT: Thinking about now the guy that lost it should foot at least half the bill for this.
And give you a break on the work.
That would at least make the pricing on those Ebay ones a little easier to swallow.

So refusing to give up I found some part numbers.
Guessing they are correct though.
Aftermarket: CH1092110
Mopar: 5EV24SX9

The Mopar part number led me here:

https://www.moparpartz.com/p/Jeep__C...ner=googlebase

Only one I could find. Now before you get all excited. I am betting this is not available. If you put through an order
they will take your money and then you will get an email saying they don't have it.
And of course it will take a few days to get the credit to show back up.
Amazing how they can come and get the money immediately though. LOL.

Ralph,

Man I can't thank you enough for all the legwork you've done for me. Sorry for the delayed response, I hadn't seen that you had responded again. I actually contacted the guy in Norfolk, no response yet.

I would make the guy that lost it pay for it, but he is a loser and I just went and got my parts back and taught myself to paint for the first time. My money is long gone and I'll never see it again.

Good thoughts on the new part...I think I'll reach out to them tomorrow to see if they have it first. Your quite right about them taking my money right away and taking a long time to get it back. I'm willing to pay that much for a new unit, but the guy on eBay is pretty much crazy. Way too much for a used, 30 yr old piece of plastic.

It's so frustrating, I thought I was done with the painting until I realized this piece was missing. Shucks.

No Problem. Kinda retired and have a lot of time on my hands.
Been meaning to get to a couple boneyards I frequent.
Just like to go and see if there is anything interesting.
Plus there are a couple unicorns that I am looking for that I don't expect to ever find. LOL.
Plus I have a small list of parts that I am keeping an eye out for that other forum members are looking for.
So I will add this to the list. Keep me posted on your progress.
Can't promise if and when I will get there or if I will find one though.
Couple questions.
Have a preference in color? If there are a couple to choose from.
Maybe just tell me if you want a lighter or darker color?
Thinking you will take anything that is a good usable piece though. LOL.
Also anything specific as to the condition I should be paying particular attention too?
Last what tools do you need to remove one?
Figure the 2 circles I see on each side are body clips so a door panel tool for starters.
What else?
Sucks going and finding something you want and not having the tools to get it off.
I try to bring an assortment but seems you are always missing that one tool you need.
One boneyard I go to I used to be the driver that delivered their auto parts.
They are a customer of the Napa I work at. I still work there but don't deliver anymore.
Little 2 1/2 hours a day 4 days a week. Hence the kinda retired.
They like me and I can borrow tools if need be so........
Other one I am just another customer so..........
At the first one I show up with donuts from time to time.
Last trip there I found this:

Off a Jeep Liberty. I sourced a '96 and down rear tire carrier that I might try and put on my '00 someday.
Figure a hardcover spare tire cover would be nicer.
Hoping they would charge me something stupid like $20-$25.
They let me have it for freeeeeee.
Pays to be the guy that used to deliver their auto parts and shows up with donuts from time to time. LOL.

Mighty nice of you! There are just four of those rivet-style connectors, two on each end of the air dam where it attaches to the front fenders. I use a narrow punch or small phillips screwdriver to punch the middle out the back and then the rivet will just come free. Then there are six small 9/32nd bolts that are screwed into the front cross member. There is enough room between the bumper and the cross member to get a short socket/low-profile socket wrench on them, but it's almost just easier to get a ratcheting box end wrench on them if you have one. Once you get them started I just used my fingers to remove them. As far as the color goes, I'm indifferent as I'm going to sand and primer/paint it to match with a 2K system.

Nice find on the rear spare tire carrier. I've seen TWO pop up in the last couple of months and I've missed them both. Nice find on the hard spare cover - I also prefer those over the soft-style covers. And free...can't beat that.

So there was a Jeep at a boneyard that popped up last night that is promising and may actually have this air dam. I'm going to see if I can run down there at lunch today - I'll let you know if I end up being able to go today OR if I end up finding one in another manner.

Truly appreciate the effort you've put forth already.

S/F,

-Matt

No problem but again no promises.
So the 2 body clips on each side are not these:

https://www.zoro.com/zoro-select-ret...pk/i/G5101634/

But these?

https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

No 9/32 ratcheting wrenches. I just looked. Do have a 7mm one. Will that work?
Regardless do have 9/32 sockets in my portable tool box so.....
Keep me posted and I will do the same.

Ralph,

It's more like second kind of fastener, but instead of a flat head like a screw, it's really just a plastic rivet. I do believe the 7mm wrench will work just fine. However, though, I do have an update. I took a long lunch yesterday and went to three separate junkyards that had Cherokees. The first two only had broken front air dams, which was frustrating. The third, however, did have an intact air dam. Bad part is that the jeep had hit a pole (I surmise from the damage) and the air dam was bent up. I'm afraid that it may have taken a set, but I'm going to put some work into it with a heat gun to see what I can do. The other bad part is that it came from Jeep with the unpainted fenders, so I'll have to do the extra steps of using an adhesion promoter and priming. Not a big deal, but slightly more work. I'm still going to keep my eyes peeled for a painted version over the next week or so though, but if nothing pops up, I may just struggle forward with this one for the time being.

I got it.
Keep me posted on how you make out with this.
Not seeing me do a boneyard trip anytime soon so......
Just out of curiosity.
Guessing I am looking at the back the air damn in your picture?

Ralph,

I actually had a reasonable bit of success straightening this piece with heat last night. I've now got it hanging on my fence with a small anvil hooked to the bottom sitting in the sun to (hopefully) further straighten it out. To answer your question though, no, that is the front of the air dam.

As a matter of fact they just had one.
An '00.
Sorry.

The white Jeep.
Also going to try and get to the other boneyard Monday.
Will let you know if I find anything.
