Standard hex head capscrews may be used there - should be either 5/16"-18 SAE or M8-1.25 ISO. Use SAE Grade 8 or ISO Property Class 10.9, and the use of LocTite #242 should be considered MANDATORY.

EDIT - and if you feel you just have to use lockwashers, I firmly recommend the "star" type (internal or external, external should work better here.) Those "split lockwashers" don't work worth spit...

I was able to buy a set of these, including the straps, at an Advance Auto. Cheap, brand new. The first time they gave me the wrong size (meant for the other end), but I kept those for spares anyway.

I thought the 5/16 were a finer thread pitch?

I paid $20 at the dealer for them in a pinch :/ Advance couldn't find them and I even described the bolt in Spanish.

5/16”-24 x 1-1/4” gr.8 hex bolts from any local hardware store will work just fine.

My apologies - now that I think about it, you are correct. They are 5/16"-24 if SAE (ISO has no commonly available "coarse" or "fine" pitch - there are non-standard series, but they are rare.)

I was remembering that the DC knuckle and caps were cast, and therefore should use a 5/16"-18UNC thread for strength - what could I possibly have been thinking?
