I have a 1991 cherokee laredo 4.0L Automatic. The previous owner removed the overhead console when they did the headliner. I'm currently redoing the headliner because their job was not to my liking.
I asked them about the console a few weeks after I bought the jeep from them and they told me when they did the headliner they threw it out!! I had to bite my tongue because the actual xj ones pre 97 are hard to find. They also said the cargo cover was misplaced many years ago, so that's long gone too.
I'm trying to bring it back to its stock condition for the most part. I've been checking ebay/craigslist and the few yards I have around me but haven't been lucky.
Anyone have a working overhead console for a cherokee xj before 1997? The wiring is still there for mine, but I would need the console and both brackets.
Also, if anyone has a cargo cover too? My cherokee has a grey interior, but I'd consider anything.

To bad you did not post this a bit sooner.
Spotted this on Ebay about 3 weeks ago.
Thinking the person that bought this stole it. LOL.

They come up on Ebay from time to time. Unfortunately not this cheap.
But since you just need brackets and the overhead itself makes things a bit easier.
Perseverance will pay off. Sooner or later one will pop up somewhere.
As far as the cover goes for some reason RHD XJ ones can be bought new. Aftermarket.
But not LHD ones. Thinking you don't want to pay this much but......
https://www.quadratec.com/products/1...SABEgKMiPD_BwE
If you read the review some guy said he flipped it and it worked so....
Also best I can tell this is a full size spare one but not sure.
They came in 2 types. Full size spare and space saver spare.

I"m not really looking for the aftermarket covers, I've seen those and don't really care to pay that much especially if its going to take modification on my part to make it work.
Thanks for the reply and wow! that person got a great deal on the console. I wonder if the seller actually sent it because that is a steal. I periodically check, but haven't had luck like that! I see a lot of the ZJ ones but the XJ ones are rare. and when they do come up they are always north of $100 (usually closer to $200).

I posted that in the Craigslist/Ebay... Funny Listings thread when I first saw it.
No idea where the bidding might end up but it was the completeness of it that really caught my eye.
Lot of times you just see the overhead itself. Which is fine for some folks. I put one in my '00 that did not come with one.
So I had to make sure to get everything. Got lucky with a Craigslist part out local to me so....
I stalk Craigslist and Ebay probably like nobody else.
If I come across one I will PM you.
Assuming I remember. I am older and the mind is not what it used to be. LOL.
As far as Craigslist goes you would be surprised at how many people are willing to work with you and ship.
I have had stuff shipped from all over the country to me for stuff I found on Craigslist.
No matter what I see, if anything, I will send you a link. Even if the asking price is through the roof.
The info is yours to do with as you see fit. MLOL.

Since I spend so much time on Ebay and Craigslist looking for those harder to find parts I toy with the idea
of starting a thread where people can let me know what they are looking for.
Hey maybe they get lucky and I come across it in my travels.
Figure include a disclaimer. LOL.
And of course a nominal service fee. MLOL.
Just kidding.
I get you just need the 2 brackets and the overhead itself.
Did your Jeep come with a cargo cover?

There are 2 different mounting set ups in the older Jeeps.
This one which I believe to be the newer older Jeep one.
And this one which I believe to be the older old Jeep one. Look closely at the cargo plastic right by the hatch.
My point is I don't know if when it comes to the cargo cover itself if it matters.
Did they make one for the older mounts and a different one for the newer mounts?
Or are they all the same?
Which ones do you have?

I have what you are referring to as the "Newer older", the top picture. Its hard to tell in the bottom pic, but it looks like the same kind of hook on top so I would assume they latch the same way. It would just be the newer older ones are set a couple inches further back.
Mine has the space saver spare tire mounted on the driver's side as well.

That is one thing that is tough to determine. Whether it is a space saver spare one or a full size spare one.
No body says when you do see them for sale. You could try asking but the seller usually does not know.
You really can't tell for sure from the pictures if they even give you some good shots of it.
Do you ever plan on ditching the space saver for a real tire?
I can't deal with those things. One of the first things I did was get rid of the space saver in my Jeep for a full size tire.
I happen know a few things about this cause in '97 and up they did away with the retractable cargo cover for a cheesy
tarp one. My Jeep did not come with one but I found one for her. The thing is I want to try and put a '96 and down cover
in my '00. Have all the pieces I need but just have to see if I can pull it off.
When I decide to attempt a project I like to educate myself as much as possible about it to hopefully achieve a better end result. LOL.

So I do also have a full size spare, I just do not keep it in the jeep because I don't want to give up the cargo space. I figure if I ever get a flat, I can put the space saver on until I am home and then change it over to the full size if I think it will be awhile before getting the tire repaired or replaced.

Just ordered an overhead console so I am all set on that. I spent more than I wanted to, but it was complete and shown still working before it was removed.
I am still looking for a cargo cover if anyone has one!
