is the 96 engine the same as a 97? i know the body style changes but i think i remember reading the engines were the same.. if so id be interested

how bout the trans? still available? which trans is it? the 42re in my 98 ZJ is on its last leg after my last wheeling trip and need something to swap out, how much and can anyone chime in if itll work or not?

The transmission is an AW4, and it is still availible. The motors were the same from 1996 to 1997, however, "some" of the wiring was not. Like the crank sensor wiring, and MAF sensor wiring. The sensors are the same and are there, however, this was an early production 1996 motor, so is may, or may not work with your current main wiring harness. Just word to the wise is all....

is the motor still up for sale? if so do you think it will fit in a 01, i have a mechanick putting it in so if that means it will fit then i most likely will take it.

Transmission is the AR4 4-speed automatic.... and the transfer case attached to it is the NP231.

And FYI, the motor has been SOLD.
