Default Feeler ad for 1996 Cherokee Sport 4x4

Thinking about selling the 96' XJ. I am not sure what to sell it for so I wanted to put it on here and get some offers. It does need some work but over all it is in fair shape. Here is the good and bad:

Good- New windshield, decent tread on tires, interior is in great shape except for head liner on sound bar. Motor runs great but does have 245k on it. Paint is fair, would shine up nice with a good waxing. Recent radiator flush and new hoses. Temp runs way below half mark. A/C and heat work great. 3" lift with 31x10.50x15's with Pacer 15x8 rims and d window design. Motor does not smoke or leak any fluids.

Bad- Body is in fair shape but does have some dents. Not major but noticeable. Transfer case/4x4 only works in high. You can get it into low but it is hard to get back out. Rear drive shaft may need new u-joints. Drivers side door needs top hinge welded. It is still intact but needs to be welded before it tears off. The lower hinge needs a new pin as has recently broke and I have not had time to fool with it. For some reason the spring on the drivers side rubs the track bar bracket so it is noisy when hitting bumps. Not sure what the cure for that is. That's all I can think of for now. If I notice any other stuff that needs fixed I will update.

My son drives it everyday to school and work so it is fully functional. Just thinking about giving him mine and getting a Grand Cherokee. Vehicle is located in Jefferson GA.

Sounds like a good vehicle, but it also needs some work on it. What are you looking to get out of it? $ wise

Ok well im waiting on an insurance check that ill hopefully have before X-Mas if i can i can keep my dad on top of it. With that i'll be able to talk with certainty and have something to back it up. I'll talk with my parental units because im interested in it but $ is my only barrier. $1500 is a fair price IMO and I'm down in Carrollton, about a hour and a half away. Do you have a title on it and all that goodness? Only thing im really concerned with is the T-case not going into low weather its linkage or a internal issue.

Yes I have the title. I don't know what to say about the t-case. I can tell you this. If you put the car in neutral, it is an automatic by the way, it grinds really bad when trying to get it into 4 low. If you shut the engine off and pull it down into 4 low it will engage and you can crank the jeep back up and it works. Once it is in low you have to work to get it back out. So we never use 4 low. The 4 high works fine and you can shift from 2 to 4 hi back and forth with no issues.

I think I have seen t-cases on Craigslist for around $300. Not sure if it is cheaper to rebuild what is on there or find a used one and slap it on. Then again it could just be a linkage issue.

Yeah sounds like an internal thing with the grinding but woulnt know till it was opened up. CL is steep on everything around ATL it seems like to me. And all the JY's around me are the same, i saw a post some where that said they got a borla header off a 93 for $10, around me the people think everything in the yard is a solid gold brick. Any rust and 245k is pretty high mileage any issues now or before?

No rust on this one. I think it has been in the south it's whole life. No motor issues. The engine is original as is the mileage. No knocking or ticking. The engine runs great.

that sounds like a linkage issue to me.. my brothers xj was doing the same thing, and it was the linkage.

PM answered.

To everyone else. I am not interested in trading anything for the Jeep. Cash money only. I have to buy another vehicle if I sell this one.

How do you fix this? If it is a simple fix I will crawl under there and fix this problem.
