The paint guide suggests using a Scotch Brite or 3M scuff pad which is not as abrasive as sandpaper. Clean 'em, scuff 'em, wipe them down, clean 'em again, apply Adhesion Promoter, paint x3+. Clear coat if desired. For a high quality paint job, it is important to use an Adhesion Promoter and follow the instructions on the can. Adhesion Promoter is available in spray cans at most auto parts stores. The adhesion promoter temporarily softens the plastic allowing the spray paint to bond with the surface of the fender flares.
Here's a few XJs that have painted V2 Fender Flares:

Ditto on the plastic prep... it removes the grease and opens the pores to the paint bonds to the plastic. Prep and correct materials are everything. I use SEM products.

Sounds good. It will be spring before I have time to mess with them. I plan on painting my XJ so I will paint the flares to match. They look better painted I think. I was for sure gonna use adhesion promoter. It's your best friend when painting plastic.

A Flat Flare is something we're working hard on right now. We wanted to overcome a few of the issues associated with other flat flares. Our goal is for our flat flares to use a cutout template for a more straight forward install and to have a larger wheel opening, especially for the front flares. Some of the details have required a lot of time to fine tune but we're getting there.

Thanks to Tate for posting these pics of his XJ playing in the snow!
Our V2 Fender Flares start with thicker plastic than a lot of other brands. Plus, a lot of people think they look way better and aren't as big and bulky!

We have V2 Fender Flares for:
- 84-96 XJ
- 97-01 XJ (yes, they are different)
- XJs with the lower rear quarter panel folded up
- MJ/XJ 2 Door
- Plus three different styles of Hood Vents to let the hot air out of almost any vehicle

Hey, thanks for the question. I've got to say that it's liable to be another 3-4 weeks before we get these dialed in. That's not as soon as I wish we could get them ready but that's as realistic of a time frame as I can come up with and that's not set in stone. Wish I could be more specific cause we know there are people waiting on them.
