10 gauge steel. It can be made out of thicker material but the 10 gauge seems to be very sufficient and keeps shipping costs down. It is held in place by 6 screws (4 go in the factory holes and two go into the cross braces) and there are tabs that you cannot see that go behind the headlight bezels.
