Default WJ Control Arms on XJ - which direction?

I needed new CA bushings so I bought new WJ CA's to get stronger arms w/more tire clearance. Does the end w/oval flex bushing go on the axle or on the frame? I've already got them machined down to fit and ready to install.

Pretty sure the oval bushing goes to the frame side. If you haven't seen this yet it'll help you out too www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoWJcontrolarms.htm

Default Thanks a bunch for the link!

That was helpful. I had a friend mill the bushing centers down to fit instead of messing with the brackets. I don't foresee ever having to replace them as the other guy mentioned.

Default Checked Control Arms on 2 stock WJ Grand Cherokees

I got to thinking about the placement of the CA's on the frame and axle and it didn't seem logical that the oval flex bushing would go on the frame since the axle articulates and flexes while the 2 frame rails are always in the same position relative to the axle. It seemed like the flex bushing should go on the axle end, not the frame.

So I drove around a mall parking lot and checked to stock WJ's and they have the oval flex bushing end mounted on the axle, not the frame. Based on that being the factory position for the WJ CA's, I mounted them that way.

I mounted mine with oval bushing to the body.
Had to trim the corners off with a grinder. Not alot just round it over.

No flex problems/interference.

Yes, that Aussie Howto was linked earlier and I looked at it. That guy doesn't say why he mounted them backwards, but they are indeed backwards. It probably doesn't hurt anything since the XJ CA's don't have the flex bushing on the axle end. It seems like the flex bushing does more good on the axle end than on the frame end or else Jeep wouldn't have put it there when they redesigned it for the WJ. It does seem like the flex bushing on the frame end is going to allow the whole axle and suspension to move side to side more relative to the frame & body, which may or may not be a good thing.
