I just removed the Xfer case drops off two XJ's, and installed 2-deg shims between the rear end and leaf springs. (fat end FWD) Corrected pinion angle difference almost exactly. This with a 3" RC lift, and 2 deg shims can still use OEM U-bolts.

Xfer case drops bend the crap outa your rubber mounts, and try to bend the exhaust pipe downwards as well. It's foolish to do this; you will cost yourself 5 times as much as a set of degree shims. And nobody likes buying rubbers.

Thanks goatherder. The deg shims are news to me! What kind if shim would I need for a3 inch lift? And are these stressful to other parts?

A used front driveshaft from another XJ or a few others will work with the SYE. Another bad point with the TC drop kits is the clearance you lose with them.

In a 3" lift 2* shims should work fine with your SYE and 4* ones for a 4 1/2" lift are what I used on mine. Along with HD Adj. U/LCA's for the front differential adjustments of pinion angle and wheel centered in wheel well. You will need an Double Adj, Track Bar for that also not the place to shimp.

I haven't had it for very long. But honestly after reading on hear more man and talking with some guys around work I would put the drop on for now and save for an sye. I don't know about them going for 500 I really haven't looked into them to much yet I'm still in the early process of the build lol!!

Dont do it!!! It will burst into flames after folding like a taco.

Seriously though, a tcase drop is supposed to be a temp solution but many, myself included, live with it. As stated it puts a bit extra stress on motor and trans mounts and increases your front drive line angles and reduces the rear. Ive run about an inch of drop for over two years with nothing major to complain about and Im currently at 5" in the rear.

BUT if I could start this all over and plan it out ahead of time I would have had the SYE and driveshaft figured into the build.

I guess bursting into flames and folding like a taco doesn't sound too bad lol. I guess I'll out it on and start saving for the right way to do it! Damn shame I spent 5 thousand on my jeep I just don't want to mess it up...

I have been window shopping for a SYE for quite a while since I am planning on the 8.8 swap amongst other up-grades. A SYE runs between $200-$300 and you can use a front drive shaft with it. In the $500 range I have seen several SYE/Drive shaft combos. Like Advanced SYE/TomWoods drive shaft combo. (which is prob. the way I'll go). To get the right length you install the SYE, measure the length and then they send you the correct length shaft. I have a front drive shaft from my donor vehicle while I wait for the new shaft.

Okay sooo I just out my 1 inch t case drop in for my 3 inch lift. Took it for a test drive and vibrations were gone. Woohoo... however when I pulled back into my driveway and turned off my cherokee I started getting a kind of clicking sound. Maybe 20 per second. What could this be and is it bad for my cherokee!?

And so it begins. I did a Tcase drop and ended up buying a SYE with in 6 months. I was sick of the noises, creaks, pings, engine vibes, witchy tcase shifter. Low speed vibes did go away though with it in.

I was planning on getting an sye once i get the the funds. Do you think having the t case drops in for a few months Will cause permanent damage? Thanks

Great! And I just took a look under my hood. Turns out the sounds was my fan hitting the cover. Some tin snips fixed that right up! I'll be putting my front end lift on tomorrow! Hope it goes smoother than the rear lol

How much is your drop? Your fan really should not be hitting the shroud unless you dropped the transfer case to much. My drop is only 3/4 of an inch and I have no vibes or other issues. (still saving my pennies for the SYE). I would look at your motor and tranny mounts to make sure they are in good shape? Those motor mounts ware out and cause a multitude of problems if they are not addressed, especially when your up there wheeling.
