Whomever said you would get better gas mileage with a roof rack compared to a tire mount in the rear? Not me...all I said was the more weight you add, the height you lift it the less gas mileage you will get period. A point that can't be argued.
And yes you read it wrong, they strip their vehicles when in the city and us AAA if needed and but add their gear when going out on the weekend..
20 mpg on the highway with 35's and 5:88's in a 88 XJ that's great mileage.
If you ever make it to Vegas let me know...I would be glad to take you over to Johnson Valley and make a few laps with us at the hammers (aka king of the hammers) in some of my buddies rigs or a few hundred miles I a Trophy truck, your young, your doing good on your first build and you have a lot of passion

And ohh I got you! So the AAA is for city driving makes sense now hahah
And I was just saying that if you are going to DD a built xj a swing out tire carrier will be the best option because it will get better gas mileage then on a roof rack
And hey man I could be 60 for all you know but I take it you have seen my build thread and know I'm 19 I would love to wheel with you at the hammers! That one is on my jeep wheeling spot bucket list along with Moab and the rubicon

I honestly don't really care what kind of mileage my jeep gets I just like it to run top. you don't care how heavy your jeep is? I personally like to keep weight off the top and as low weight as I can while keeping the structural integrity and strength for offroading purposes. I'm just giving some advice to a question is all, not whining by any means

A bumper mount will not decrease the MPG and a good HD Bumper/Tire Carrier like mine can be had for $600 shipped. Price/quality/materials/workmanship can't be beat on the web anywhere for that price. Check it out here www.roxolidtrailarmor.com all they make are XJ bumpers 2 lines I have the Crawler rear. It comes with a Hi-Lift Jack mount and a Antenna mount built on the bumper also everywhere else they charge extra for a jack mount from $50-75. Here is a photo of mine
I had my spare in my roof rack for a while and its a real PITA getting it up and down on a lifted XJ as in heavy. If you on the trail and have a flat then have to place it the flat back on top all muddy or whatever once you do so you will see what I mean

Just checked Roxolid's website and it looks like they aren't offering the Crawler line anymore? Anyone know anything about that? Was really thinking that was the way I wanted to go, and I've got a bonus coming my way . . .
Poop.
