I've had good luck with Coopers. I like the 3ply sidewall. STTs on the last XJ. ST Maxx on the current one.
IMO Duratracs are over rated and not worth the premium price.

I was torn this time around between the durratracs and the fierce MTs. Fierce are a little more agressive but I knew I wouldn't get 70-80,000 miles out of then so I went with the duratracs again. The durratracs hydroplane significantly less any MTs Ive ran.

Most MTs and mud tires will hydroplane based on the nature of the tread pattern. What i like about the ST Maxx, toyo AT2 and even the GT raidials is the tread pattern but for offroad never sure what their limits are. Ive done good with my destination ATs and their sidewall is tough. I would endorse those for a compromise tire

Of course if you over-drive the road conditions. It's only a matter of time before they let you down ( as with any tire)
If hydro planing is a real concern then the Cooper AT3 might be a better choice, but you lose the 3 ply sidewall.

I've had no issues. They've worked quite well over the winter too. Of course if you over-drive the road conditions. The Toyo AT2 is a good tire but I imagine would plug up at the first sign of mud and would need a lot of wheel speed to clean (as would the Cooper AT3) They look a little more aggressive than the AT3 though.

I'm running the Mickey Thompson mtz's they have been great on road dry wet or in snow. I've only ran them once off road in the snow and even at street pressure they did great.

I don't have much experience with the other tires stated before me, but I picked up some Gladiator QR900's for $600 locally and they are quiet, handled great in mud, snow, rain and sleet so far. Read a review posted on another forum. I drove on them for 4000 miles so far and they are great on the highway. great bang for the buck so far.
