The idea behind making a bastard pack is the donor vehicle should be SUA, with heavily arched Springs that attach Under the Axle instead of SOA like the XJ. Substituting some of those SUA leafs in place of your flat stock leafs will work because the SUA leafs have more arch with a similar spring rate.
Alternatively, adding more stock leafs into the pack will NOT add lift. It will only increase the spring rate so the weight of the vehicle can't compress the springs.

It only provides lift because it raises the spring rate so much that the busted rear springs can't sag anymore. There are people who have done it, but I wouldn't.

I always add a vote for OME. I've been really happy with their leafs. Several years, minimal hauling, moderate wheeling, no real loss of arch beyond settling a little bit. Too bad you can't get the 1.5" pack anymore.. Anyone know about why that is?

I thought the 1.5" pack is just leafs removed. But yea, when my current setup wears out ill be overhauling my rear end and doing it right. I'm tired of wasting time and money.
Good evening, I was curious if anyone has attempted or heard of an IFS Cherokee XJ. I have a 87'. I have read and done research, nothing to fruitful. I know it is pretty much sacrilege to replace a solid front axle in a jeep with anything else, so please forgive me in advance. I frequent the SO-CAL desert so pre runners and long travel toys are all the rage, so why not try and combine my passion for jeep and desert. I want a unicorn. You don't see many long travel IFS 87 XJ's tearing around Ocotillo. I have been curious about a same year exploder, a mid 90's Toyota 4runner maybe. so if anyone has thought of or attempted something along these lines, a point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

I know it has been done, but it's not well documented from what I've found. If you pursue it, please start your own build thread. I'd love to follow along

cool thanks for the info. If I had the money I would just get a complete Rubicon Express kit but I don't have the money, and practicality says to not go over 3" at this time, so I was looking into the cheap bastard pack route.

Thank you for posting, and thank you even more for explaining your reasons. Hopefully we can avoid any ignorant complaining about the idea.

Doing my lift in the next weeks and I plan to replace my upper control arm bushings when I install the new arms. Will these bushings fit on the axle side of my dana 30?

Those are 32" tall tires. Factory is 28". You'll need a lift or a lot of body work. Adapters to run the different bolt pattern rims should give you the backspacing but may still need control arms.
