Good to know. I'm waiting on a buddy to install his new LA lift and he's supposed to be giving me adjustable lowers. Then I can finally throw my lift on. CAN'T. FRIGGIN. WAIT.

OH! I should also note... The rear tires will rub on the body side of the fender wells without bumpstops.

Default T case drop kit

I want to buy the Rusty's 4.5 inch suspension lift for my 2001 cherokee sport. It comes with a T case drop kit. I won't be taking it off roading that much right now. How long can I drive it with the T case drop kit before I need a SYE and drive shaft if I can at all? and if i can will the vibrations be horrible? It is my DD.

Indefinitely.... until your motor mounts deteriorate because of the strain that is put on them due to the angle the engine/transmission/transfercase sits at now.

When people think of how the motor is secured in the XJ, they commonly think of it in 2 dimensions. Left to right. Think of it as 3 dimensional. Left to right to back. The 3rd link in that nifty little motor mount love triangle is the transmission/transfer case mount. In stock location, the bolts for the motor sit level in the mounts. When you drop the transfer case - essentially dropping the rear of the motor - the bolts now sit at an angle in the mounts which puts a strain on them and will make them wear prematurely.

Motor Mounts aside, you've corrected the angle for the rear driveshaft, but what about the front driveshaft - now you've just made that angle even steeper. So the front u-joints are going to wear quicker and you may even experience vibrations in the front.

In short - Transfer Case drop kits are to driveline vibrations as Steering Stabilizers are to death wobble. It's just a band-aid to a gaping wound.

It's best to save your money and do it right the first time.

ok I think I may do the 3 inch kit. Should I still do a SYE and drive shaft?

More than likely no. Here's a handy chart for you to save as a reference for needs and recommendations with lifts though:

Curious as to y'all's thoughts on a track bar brand. Going for a 3.5 in lift with RE coils and leafs. Goals are moderate lift for moderate wheeling on a moderate budget. At this height, is a bracket necessary? I've heard rustys is a good budget option as long as you grade 8 the hardware.

The Iron Rock Offroad Double Shear track bar is one of the best out there. It's a little expensive, but it won't ever fail you.

here ya go, easily converts to double shear when you're ready.

Thanks for the quick response. Just like your shipping. Ordered my springs on Wednesday and got em on Friday. Cheap and fast. How would I double shear?

Default vibrations

Okay I just put my 3 inch zone lift kit on my rear. Full leaf springs and shocks. I had both sides of the axle detached from the leaf springs and shocks at the same time thinking it would give me more room to get the leaf springs off, so the axle was kind of flopping around while I was working. Would this screw up the positioning of everything? I drove it a little bit and started getting vibrations around 30 40 miles an hour. Also the front isn't lifted yet and I have a 1 inch t case drop kit I didn't put in yet. Will these things make it run smoother. Sorry about the 20 questions

Default 3 inch lift question

I have decided I want to do a 3 inch suspension lift on my 2001 cherokee sport for my first lift, instead of a 4.5 inch lift. What brands would you guys recommend? I also have read that on the 97+ models even at 3 inches you get the drive line vibrations. Is a t case drop ok to use at 3 inches? It is my DD and I just want to get it up higher I won't be doing a ton of off roading so the clearance part does not matter to me. I want to run 31's is there any way I could get wider than 10.50's?

Old man emu, rubicon express. When it comes to death wobble, all XJ's are different. You may experience it, you may not at that height. The best method long term is a SYE to deal with that. Wider tires will require spacing and prob different wheels. From my reading spacers are not generally recommended.
