Nope. TCUS were fine from 88 to 90.

ECUs were best in 89 and 90.

The auto ECU has better idle stabilization programming vs the Manual ECU.

Not a problem that can't be overcome though.

Thanks... I wish I would have thought about it when I was doing the oil pan gasket when I was changing my RMS. Would have taken out a lot of guesswork and made life easier, that's for sure. Do yourself a favor too... soak that RMS in dawn dish soap before installing it and get yourself a straw, cut it off at an angle to use as a "shoehorn" for the new one. You won't regret it. Also, if you have a hard time getting the old one out even after loosening up the bearing caps (like I did) - go to walmart and look for these:

then cut off the long end. It was the ONLY thing I could use to push out the old seal. Just be very careful not to marr up the block. If you cut it right and grind down the edges of the piece you cut off, you'll have no problems.

Hey thanks man... if you want the "fins" to have that machined look like mine do, take a flat razor blade and scrape the paint off... then take some 200 grit sandpaper and sand them longways to a shine. Really takes the painted cover to a new level.

Transfer case got its first period today... I got the rear driveshaft out and the TC skid removed. Only had so many hours of daylight and knew I would need more than the screw jack I have to get the TC out, so I ran to HF and picked up a 3 ton steel floor jack for $90 and a SAE/metric wrench kit. Slowly but surely building my tool collection up. Hoping to have the TC on the work bench tomorrow night and the new rear output bearing and seal installed and the whole thing buttoned up and ready to go back in Wednesday. I love my XJ, I love my XJ, I love my XJ.

A true Renix powerhouse to boot.

4 of us were going for pizza, and although salad is from Canuckistan, I didn't think it was fair to ride in the bed of my truck on an October evening to go to town.
