WAIT!!!....Where are you going with this stuff? If you Don't have an LSD, you don't need the additive! Wait until you get it open. If you DO have an LSD, you can add it later because the Synthetic has enough in it to function until you do! The transfer case needs a special fluid, not an additive. The D30 doesn't care! 90W GL5 gear lube is all it needs. Don't overthink this stuff!

Thanks Dave. Can I just jack it up and rotate the drivers wheel forward and if the passenger wheels rotates the same way, it's LSD? I won't be able to tell just by looking at the carrier. I'm not that good with knowing by looking at them.

I just bought regular 75w/90 for the front Dana30. I read some can have Lsd up front too? I dunno. Confusion on my 1998 awd or whatever this is.
For the rear Dana 44. I bought Valvoline 75w/90, and it says for limited slip.on the bottle.

For the Transfer Case, I am going to the dealer. Their older guy...master tech wasn't in on Saturday. Just a young kid. He wasn't sure on the T case. So I have to call back tomorrow so they sale me the right stuff for the T case. I won't put additive in the T case.

If it IS an LSD, and it's in Park, you shouldn't be able to rotate the rear wheels by hand at all. If it's in neutral, the driveshaft can spin and they will both turn in the same direction. If they turn in opposite directions in park, it's an open diff.

BUT, with the 249 t/case, both driveshafts are connected together thru a viscous clutch. SO, with both rear wheels off the ground and in PARK, if you can turn a rear wheel, it's an open diff. If not, it's an LSD.

Thank you very much. I just copied this so I can take it in the garage with me. I was told the front could be lsd also. Never heard of that. Unless this 1998 can be.

I'll have all 4 wheels off the ground..if that helps.

The front can't be an LSD! It would be a beach turning corners that way. It could be an electric or hydraulic locker, but that would have to be an aftermarket addition. Later models with Quadra-Drive had those.

Oh okay. I seen someone's post that said they had a posi front. I got confused. Okay so no additive needed for the front then. Just the 75w/90.
I'll do my rear Dana 44 tomorrow. Had to get a fill plug ordered from the dealer no one has one.

I HATE MY LOCAL DEALER!! I called and asked them what my NP249 transfer case took on my 1998 grand cherokee limited. I think thats what I have...

He got snotty and said just use ATF+4 Tranny Fluid.
I hope he's right. He cut me off and hung up.

Said for the tranny....ATF+3?

I did find this for my transfer case...not sure how much it holds?? If this is the right stuff for mine?

THAT'S the stuff! The 249 holds 2.5 PINTS. The drain&fill plugs are 10mm and can be rounded with a 3/8 Allen wrench. Use the right wrench!

When I worked for Valvoline Instant Oil Change, we used to keep those rubber plugs in inventory. Try jeep4x4.com or quadratec.com

Thank you Dave! I will grab 2 quarts for the T case. I think that's 1 1/4 quarts. Pretty sure. Gotcha on the 10mm.

That plug will be here in the morning. Going to get on the truck and get everything done. I keep driving it...lol

I'm gonna check out those links though. See what type of fun stuff they have. And check out their headlight housings. Mine have some type of led strips between the headlight and turn signals. Like one whole housing. I don't know if that led strip puts much strain on my alternator. And they look tired. The lenses.

I called the tranny shop that serviced this truck for the PO. He told me atf+3 or,Chrysler 7176 fluid. It was just done about 12 months ago though. I have seen atf+4...but not 3.

Bump....sorry. I'm working on my Jeep the next two days straight I was just seeing if my build sheet shows this is a posi?

I am guessing the front dana 30 is non posi? Sorry don't know much about axles or diffs.

If this is posi.....is this. trans x stuff additive from advance auto okay? I dont know what additive to use? My local dealer are tards!!

Also.??? I read for the Dana44 to only use synthetic??

The reason I'm asking...I found the following online..

When changing out the fluids in the differentials, referring to those in my WJ 2000 with Quadra-Drive and 4.7 V-8 what is the proper way to do it?

I know that you are to use 4 ounces of the Mopar Limited Slip Additive (LSD) PN 4318060AB in the Dana 44 rear and 2.5 in the Dana 30 front.

.

I found this online....if i need it. Is this right? And all i would need?

https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Mopar.../dp/B000TTEX8W

Sorry for all the questions....just want to make sure my diff is happy.

According to you build sheet, you have Quadra-Trac with a Trac-Loc rear differential. So you need the;

Mopar transfer case lubricant. NO ADDITIVE HERE!

And the 75w-140 rear axle lube + the friction modifier additive.

No additive in the front diff. Any type of GL5 lube is good.

Get? Got it? Good!

The guy you posted had the QUADRA-DRIVE. That has LSDs in both diffs. They are computer controlled.
