Bad Catalytic Converter?

Took it do Brown Daub today... they wouldn't even look at it, just said if it is rattling that is probably the problem and is 1800ish to fix, 1500ish for the part and then 2 hours of labor at 110 an hour.... Decided I will visit a few local shops or just buy the cat i found and do it myself, hoping for the best.
Really it's not hard, you should do it yourself. Measure carefully, cut, bolt new pipe in loosely with the clamps at first, jostle it around to where you want it, and tighten up.

well final update guys: took it over to the dealer, they replaced the entire front pipe which had the cats in and it was completely covered under the 8 year 80,000 miles federal emissions warranty. Saved myself about 2k in parts and work! Note: the would not tell me about the warranty though, i had to find it out for myself and tell them about it.
