1) he's got a Ford 8 lug 44 under his but he wants to upgrade to a 60. He's only had that axle under for maybe 3 months.
2) are SD axles ball joints? What's the difference?
3) I'll be doing disks, TMR shave kit and probably a pinion guard

Save and spend it all on a 60. You'll be glad you did.

Yes. Ball joints the size of a coke can. 35 spline inners and outers, unit bearing, and freaking beef. Sterling 10.5 rear is 35 spline (14b is only 30), 1.5" shafts like the front, comes with discs, no carrier break, and the housing is about 1.5" smaller than the 14b.

I promise waiting and buying and 60 will be waaaay more beneficial in the long run. And a trailer.

I know I should I just don't know if I can afford a 60 anytime soon. I don't want to do it twice but I know a 44 will be plenty for me for what I do, rocks are such a far drive for me

No more tail light gap, at least for the driver side. Added pipe to the side to easily fly a flag and still be able to open my tailgate. Still need to finish the passenger side, add more gussets, weld and grind and paint. Wow this thing took forever lol

Passenger frame mount looks upside down. When you install it before you burn it onto the frame, try to get some thin sheet metal and copy the removable middle section brackets to the frame mount to allow a little bit of play so you can get the crossmember in and out easily without fighting the tight fit like I do. But I also have a 50 lb skid to fight with on mine. Also bevel the top of the crossmember brackets to let them start a little easier.

You mean like put maybe a piece of 18 gauge in between the 2x4 cross member and the control arm brackets where they're bolted together?

Sure. Just when installing, when you are done just remove it and tighten the hell out of the crossmember bolts. And one side should be enough, I wouldn't put it on both.
