Not really much of an update but just some things to share. I picked up a WJ from a coworker for cheap. It needed some work and I was aware of that but wasn't aware of just how much work. To date I have replaced the water pump, thermostat, rad cap, rear wheel seals, rear wheel bearings, rear ujoint, governor pressure sensor and governor pressure solenoid. One of the freeze plugs is leaking so I'll have to pick a weekend to dive into that. All in all I'm still happy with it. I've only got about $1200 in it and I'm currently getting 21.5 mpg which I think is fantastic. The initial plan was to drive this for roughly 3 months, sell it, and buy a new truck. I have sidelined these plans and will just drive this jeep into the ground because it's very nice not having a car payment and much lower insurance.
Now, on to the big Jeep. I've just been driving it around town lately. I did get a new heater control valve. It seems I replace that thing every year because it starts leaking. I have also lost the blower motor. I believe this is a connection issue behind the dash that I have fought before. Also, I pulled off the Northern Tool winch that has served me very well over the years and replaced it with a 9500 lb superwinch with synthetic rope. Main reason for this is I have grown tired of pulling heavy steal cable. Although I have only ever pulled cable once to recover myself, I have done it often to recover others. This lighter and easier synthetic will be very nice.

Well the above post gave me the motivation to get the blower motor work, fix the heater control valve, change the oil and rotate the tires. My shop supervisor fell asleep on the job. I don't know how it was comfortable but he managed to pass out and wasn't too happy when I woke him up to move the Jeep.

I would really like to get my A/C working. It does get really hot in July and August in my neck of the woods. I have been toying with eliminating that control valve all together, but mine functions properly so if it ain't broke, don't fix it type of thing.

The reason to get rid of it is because once it does break, it will be while your driving and all the coolant will evacuate from the system out of that valve. Ask me how I know. lol... trust me, I'm all about the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" montage, but this falls under the "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

I wasn't aware that 96 and below had a blend door? Call me dumb for not really noticing it but I was under the impression that only 97 and up had the blend door as they deleted the heater control valve when doing so.

Nope. They have had them since the Renix days. It's just mechanically controlled instead of control by a blend-door actuator (electronic motor).

If it ain't broke?
The reason to get rid of it is because once it does break, it will be while your driving and all the coolant will evacuate from the system out of that valve. Ask me how I know. lol... trust me, I'm all about the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" montage, but this falls under the "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".
It is a lot easier to flush your heater core with that valve out as well.

The funny thing is I was going to do that, but when my son's 95 had some issues with the heater core and that valve. I took the hoses I bought and did his instead. Then we had a shop fix his A/C. Now it works like a charm.
