Where is my NSS (pic inside)
Cant seem to find my NSS. Is it in the pic below?
EDIT:
I forgot to mention that I THINK the problem is the NSS, i could be wrong. Mainly becuase it was starting fine, i had to pull the engine and now it only will start in nuetral and not park. Usually i thought when the NSS goes, its because dirt/dust get in there. I figured if i wasnt driving it, then how could that be?
The only thing i had to remove on the tranny when i pulled the engine was the topmost (and leftmost) black cable in the picture. I didnt even remove the cable, i just had to remove the 18mm and 10mm bolts that hold its support to the tranny. ( i had to get it out of the way in order to get the bottom driverside bellhousing bolt out.

if you look on the drivers side right above the tranny pan. if you still cant see it, look for a big plastic clip that has a black cable coming into it that is held in by a metal bracket, that would be ur shift cable. follow that down the tranny and it should connect rite to it.

i think i've found the problem: looks like the switch changed in 2001. Its not a big, triangular block like illicit posted..... Seems like its more sensor-y looking on my year: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f310/...cement-970292/
Ill try replacing this to see if it solves my problem.
Could it be this thing just dried up from not driving the vehicle for a couple of months while i was rebuilding the engine? (Trying to figure out why this happened, since i didnt touch this piece at all, the car was simply sitting for about two months)

The NSS is on the passenger side of the transmission just between each of the cooler lines where they enter the transmission (right behind the bellhousing).

That is incorrect, and does not apply to your cherokee. I just looked in the 2001 Factory Service Manual and it clearly shows the NSS in the same position and the same unit as previous years.

ok...to be clear....do you have a Grand Cherokee or a regular cherokee, because this is the regular cherokee forum and i answered as if that's what you have.
Grand Cherokee NSS is completely different, and we can' help you with that - you'll have to go to the right forum.

Sorry for the confusion, I can see now why you were directing me to the block-shaped NSS. Meanwhile i thought i was going crazy because i couldnt find it.
So, thanks for your help! And again sorry!

One last question, would it be feasible that this switch would break when the car HASNT even been driven for 2 months?
I hope this is the cause of my problem

your symptoms describe the problem exactly. And yes it's possible they usually go bad due to corrosion on the contacts
