Tinting light is stupid and illegal pretty much everywhere when I was working in automotive I loved being a state inspector. I loved to make kids cry about failing cause of tinted lights, and hid lighting cause it wasn't in a proper projector. Unless equipped from the factory

This exactly ^^ why compromise safety for aesthetics? Sure I guess it could look cool...There most definitely illegal in my province.

What is interesting with many products like this is that if you read the very fine print on the label, it will tell you that is may only be legal for off highway use.

Here it is supposed to be illegal to have any kind of sticker/decal on your rear window, no matter where you put it, but I rarely ever see anyone get a ticket for it, even with the rear window mostly covered with them. If one officer does read the ordinance and pull you over for having them, then you have no recourse when you go to pay the fine.

I wonder why things like this are not required to have more visible warnings that they could be illegal to use, but legal to purchase?

I put 4 coats on mine and they're dark. So I put LED bulbs in and no problems at all for the tail lights. I wouldn't recommend doing the marker lights, I did mine and those are hard to tell.. Lol

FWIW, mine have 6 thin coats + two coats of clear and I've made absolutely certain they are visible, and they are. Tape off the reverse lights, then remove the tape when you spray the clear and they come out looking sharp. Also, leave the brake light above your rear window untinted, as tinting it won't really help aesthetically and you can be certain people will still see it.

Obviously, most people are very against it and I understand their reasoning, but it was a cheap way to really upgrade the appearance of my stock DD imo.

peace out

And what's wrong with carrying "Cocked & Locked" IWB holster, not in front that's only on TV? I've been doing so for a long time as that is the way a 1911 was designed and yes I do have a CC permit.

As far as tinting why would anyone do that and make the lighting less visible and unsafe?

if you add LED bulbs it's not a problem... Mine are brighter with blacked out and LED bulbs. Plus I love the look. As long as your safe about it, I don't see it as a problem.

Tinting headlights and taillights is just a senseless fad like squatting, hydraulics, and adding a ton of chrome. To each his own. I know round my way the only people that tint taillights and headlights are tools and lil pussies who have holes in their mufflers. Have at it if it gives you a stiffie

I don't think anyone who tints will read these replies and see the error of their ways. It's a matter of perspective and my own view is that I don't want to have anyone's tail/stop lights dimmed or blocked when I'm driving behind them. In the winter I curse the ppl who don't clean the snow off of their tail lights. You never know if they're braking till youre almost into their bumper. I suspect that tinted lights with winter grime and snow would be a similar hazard.

Do what you want man.. It's your jeep! My girl and I both did it with no problems at all, I have brighter led bulbs.. She is stock. I don't see an issue with either of then as long as brake lights are visible.. Keep in mind you still have that 3rd brake light. You're gonna have people argue both ways.. It's just an opinion. If you want to do it, do 3-4 coats, and add LED bulbs.

I'd rather be driving behind a vehicle with tinted tail lights than a rusted out jeep with a makeshift junkyard lift and retreads.

That's the most ignorant post I've read on this site all month. Congratulations

Damn.... This is turning into a political divide..... Like the abortion issue. I think we need a decision from the Supreme Court to decide this matter.

To summarize this:

-Tinting or otherwise covering or darkening safety/warning lights is illegal in a lot of places. Check local laws.

-Even where it is illegal, it is fairly common. Most people will never have a problem. VHT Nightshade is a popular tool for this. I've used it. Spray a few light coats, checking by turning on the lights after each coat, until satisfied.

-If you choose to darken your lenses, please install brighter bulbs. I've had excellent experiences with www.superbrightleds.com

-"Junkyard lifts" covers an incredible array of mods, and I'm not even gonna try to write that article here

-Retread tires are safe
