Default AT Solenoid Question

After rebuidling my 95 AW4 transmission, I checked the solenoids and they are reading between 7 and 8 Ohms, which is low compared to the required 11-15 Ohms the manual prescribes. Should I replace these now, or does the transmission have a few miles left before they really go south.

Tranny symptoms prior to the rebuild included burnt oil, and burned clutch discs, with some metal shavings in the case.

I installed the total rebuild kit, and purchased a new torque converter. I don't really have the money for new selenoids right now, but I would hate to have my efforts lost due to an electrical issue.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Replace if you can. If not, you can still get to them with the transmission assembled - it merely requires dropping the pan to access them.

But, the coils are probably going to short out if the resistance is decreasing. You'll want to replace them before they do short out and take parts of the TCU with them...

Default thanks for advice

5-90, I really appreciate the response and the advice. I'm looking at a donor tranny over the weekend to see if the solenoids are any better, if not, I'll be ordering them.

Have you heard any good feedback about "Whatever it Takes" Transmission parts? I found their online store and their prices are great, but I haven't heard anything else about them.

No, but I've dealt with Makco (the outfit in the link above) with good results - order from them instead. If you decide to try Whatever It Takes instead, please report back (I do try to keep track of good vendors. I deal with Morris 4x4 Centre a lot, for instance...)
