NO BUS / Does not Start
I am currently using my 01 Sport as a daily runner. I arrived at work yesterday without any issues. When I went o leave in the afternoon I have no Gauges (Gas, Battery, Oil Pres) and I do not hear the Fuel Pump engage). Lights, windows, radio all work. Although eh engine turns over, it will not fire and start. After about 20-30 seconds the odometer reads “NO BUS”.
I have read a lot about cleaning the gauge cluster connection and a little about replacing the Crank Sensor. I plan on removing the gauge cluster this afternoon to clean the connection to see if that works. If not, I guess it is on from there. I would like to avoid taking it to the shop as I know they will charge an arm and leg or electrical work.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Crankshaft position sensor. My 2000 did this same thing a few months ago. Swapped it out and I was good to go. There is a write-up on how to do it in the Technical Write-up Section.

I had the same problem about a month ago on my 01 limited. I had No Bus on the odometer, volt meter & gas gauge didn't work. It would crank, but not start. The gauges in my overhead console were blank and my radio and windows did work. It was the crank position sensor. Good luck.

chrysler had a TSB on this it stated that if the crank sensor fails (which it usually does) it takes out the entire high speed data bus. unless you take it to a dealer a typical independent shop will have no idea where to start. it wont even communicate with the drbIII ( factory scantool) Replace crank sensor! seen it plenty before

Typically on a cherokee, the crank sensor is a likley culprit, however it can be one of many things. Any 5v reference wire from the pcm to any sensor, tps, ais, iat, etc. Or possibly a poor batt feed or ground to the pcm.
Good luck!

THanks for all the replies over the last couple of days. I have ben tied up with a kitchen remodel at home and this is a pain on top of it. I will look into the fuse first and then step through the other ideas. I will update on what I find.
THanks again!

My 00 4x4 4.0 did the same thing this week. how do you test the crank sensor 90 bucks is a bit high to throw a part at. Ran fine parked went to start and nothing but no bus on dash. Never had a problem or put any money in her so this is a first.

This happened to my old 99 every once and a while and i just hit the dash on the right side of the steering wheel and it would work. I never got around to finding out why before I traded it.

OK for all that have this problem The fastest easy way to test the Crank sensor is wait for it wait UNPLUG the thing If you dashboard works again IE battery gas oil then its the CPS $78.99 at AZ and i'm sure it will be a real pain in the **** to install.

Not the hardest thing but for those that do it Watch the plastic part that goes around the Crank sensor it fell out on me and like to never got it back in. Other than that 90+ out today and got it done in about 1hr. With breaks.
