I have Rough Country Nitro Monotubes on my XJ. They're about $36 a pop. I got the ones for 2"-4" of lift. I know $36 is a little over your price range but I'm extremely satisfied with mine. Alot of people will say get Bilstiens but not everyone wants to pay $80+ for a twin-tube shock. Monotube is better if you do any sort of off-roading and will sacrific some ride quality. My XJ rides a ton better than it did with the stock shocks for sure though.

It was free for orders over $75 at the time, but the cheapest of the other options was around $10 or so I think.

What year F150, I got a 4.5 bastard pack and I wouldn''t mind going with a cheaper shock,

You could find some stock shocks and use these:

http://www.detoursusa.com/xjstm.php

It only works for the rear and you can fab something up for the front very easily with angled steel.

I got my skyjacker hydros from 4wd hardware for $32 a piece but that was 2 years ago. I'm not sure of the price now.

I would go with rusty's shocks. There $30 a piece and there a higher valving. They ride a lot nicer than a hydro shock.

Commanche rear shocks are 3" longer, provide stock feel, are cheap.
Only drawback is you will have to transfer the barpin over from your XJ shocks.
