keyless entry wiring. anyone know the color code?
I have searched but only found a little info and it was for the older model Cherokee.
I have a 98 with an apparently non functioning factory keyless system. My idea is to remove the old circuit board and replace with a viper aftermarket unit, while re-using the existing wiring. Does anyone know what colors do what? Are they positive or negative tripped circuits?
I am primarily interested in lock/unlock functionality but might be nice to flash parking lights and maybe chirp the horn.

If you are talking about the 12 pin connector for the RKE module, I think I can help you.
looking at the RKE plug, Pin 1 is Yellow, Pin 12 is White/Black. Use this as reference to the pin layout.
The door UNLOCK relay control is Pin 5 and is dark Blue. The Door LOCK control is Pin 10 and is Black/Red.
Hope this helps. Let me know if your lead colors are different than I listed.

Do you know what any of the other wires are for/colors?

I don't know f this data will help or not, it's from my '99 FSM. The pic is of my dome light RKE module.
The diagrams and connector pinout are for an Overhead Console, which contains the RKE module. The FSM doesn't have diagrams for just the RKE module.
Again, these are for a '99 XJ, so the '98 circuits may have different pinout and wire colors. I don't have '98 diagrams. The '97 Overhead console diagrams are very much different.
Note that the RKE module broadcasts data on the CCD Bus so disconnecting it may, or may not, affect the CCD Bus.

Follow up: Great success!
All of the color codes/pin outs for the rke listed above work on a 98. All are NEGATIVE switched (no I didn't try positive, just wanted to note for other's refference.)
Tips: on my viper unit I had to supply the built in relays with a ground input in order to get the ground output.
I successfully wired the horn circuit, lock/unlock and dome light activation all in the overhead console (no crawling under the dash!)
Thanks to everyone!

Where do you recommend searching to find pinouts? I have a short in the wires before the connector to the front driver's door. I don't know what the wires go to. Wiring diagrams are great for knowing the destination already, but I need a pinouts to figure where the other side of my wiring goes.

I'm not sure that all of the red wires should be connected as they were.
