help with brakes on old jeep
Currently have 91 xj cherokee with abs bendix 9 pump. I have had many problems with this system and would really like to scrap it. What would I need to convert over to normal braking system and estimated cost if doing the labor myself. Thank you

Well as far as I know find another 91 and get the break booster/master cylinder, proportioning valve and make the swap. Then remove your abs sensors and the relays and you should be good.

Jaq - its easy to identify. If you dont have a "normal" brake booster, but instead you have a pressure ball and motor; like this

JDiddy I know your pain. The stealership wanted to charge me over $800 in PARTS! No labor. + the motor is under a recall. If you have UNDER 100,000 miles you can get it all replaced under the recall, over that and its just the motor that they will pay for.

Thats what Ive heard, but I am not sure. All I know is that the pressure vessel is holding between 1200 and 1700 psi!

yeah tell me about it. Now because I am broke, I cant even get to the JY and get the parts I need to do the conversion, and since its the only ride I have, I am driving it with just the manual old school brakes. On the bright side, by the time I can do the swap I should be able to squat press about a million pounds!

Could be the relay or loose wires. The real problem with this set up is the complex nature of it. There are too many things that could fail and stop the whole system from working. We have all heard of the K.I.S.S. principal.... apparently the jeep engineers in the 90s hadn't.
