Do your High beams work? If so then yes your switch is bad, try pulling the switch out slowly and see if the lights pop on.. i had this same problem with my 93 sport.. one day they work same day didnt work. check fuses?

x2. If you've ever seen the wiring diagram, it's kind've obscene how many connections go through that switch...

Try the high beams thing, both "on" and "flash" (pushed forward and pulled backward). If either one of those works, I would also say the switch is bad.

Have you looked at the headlight harness plug? It's under the airbox. I've seen them get corroded/melted in a lot of XJs, including mine, causing intermittent problems with front headlights and signals.

Just a thought.

I just checked the high low beam thing on the steering column. i push it forward and my lights come on. let it go they turn off. so its the headlight switch then right? or is it the high low beam switch?

well it ended up being the headlight switch. connections on top of switch that you cannot see because its in the dash get hot as hell and over time break, burn up, or lose connection. if you wanna be cheap sauder it together or replace it for 17 bucks. thank you all for the help! forums work!
