Front Axle Breather hose
I was doing a visual inspection under my jeep the other day and noticed the axle breather hose looking strange. I grabbed it and the connector that sticks out of the diff was half way broken off. How is the "Nipple" extending out of the diff attached, Threaded or pressed? Has this happened to anyone and is this an easy fix.

4.3L XJ, that was what I was thinking but the whole connector coming out of the axle is what is broke, the hose is still attached to the connector. It is just half connected. I'll see if I can get a pic posted of it.

More than likely a press fit. If you don't see threads, that is what it is. Clean it up and use some JB weld on it.

Front Axle Breather Hose
Hello, I think I'm having the same problem...here is a picture of half of the hose I found under my Jeep. I've traced the other half (so I think) to the front axle/differential...Anyone know how to replace this hose or how crucial it is? Other posts say that this is a "differential breather hose" and isn't essential unless you're going under water...but what if I go through a lot of puddles that splash...anyways, would be better to just fix it.

I had the problem of part of the hose being worn, by the driveshaft, so it was open. I just spliced in a new piece of hose, got some new shield material, and bought another breather cause mine was missing the top hat part. I would have replace the whole hose but had no idea how it was secured in there and had enough of the original hose to work with. Was in the boneyard Saturday looking around and came across an XJ without a motor. The diff was wide open and the hose was still in the diff. So I pulled at it because I was curious. Came right out. The hose is connected to a metal piece that went in the hole in the diff. Not sure if it is supposed to come out that easy but it did. Just Sunday ran my rear diff breather up into the engine compartment cause I wanted it out of the Uni-Body.
