Brake smoke!
Hey errybody,
I ordered remanufactured brake calipers for my 2001 XJ last summer and this week one of them seized up and started smoking. Anyways I called rock auto and the part was still under warranty (Raybestos) so they sent me another reman and I will send them the old one back. I got the "new" one today and the dust boot does not seal. About 1/3 of the ring is not seated. There is no visible gap, but there is also no way it is sealed at all. I am worried that when the piston extends it will pull the boot off entirely. Is this a silly worry? Or should I send this "new" one back for another?
By the way there was no padding in the box and the calipers had obviously flown around enough to bash holes in the cardboard. Shoddy treatment from rock auto, which is unusual.

You don't own a soft face hammer or rubber mallet? Just fix it & move on. Check to make there is no H2O in your brake fluid and the soft line didn't collapse.

I did get it seated fully and it kept popping out. I pulled it out completely and saw the caliper had been bashed hard enough to bend the rim. It was never gonna stay in. Called rockauto and they are sending me a new one asap.
