i swap engines for a living and though i have not done a jeep (yet), they are mostly all the same. this is the way i do it, others may have their own "technique":
-put the vehicle on jackstands so that you can work under it
-unhook battery
-remove intake system
-unhook fuel and vacuum lines (only the lines that go from engine-body, no need in removing the ones that stay on engine)
-unhook the wiring harness and laying it to the side
-fan shroud and fan
-drain radiator (dispose of antifreeze properly please)
-pull radiator hoses and remove radiator
-remove belt/belts
-unbolt p/s pump and a/c compressor, lay aside
-unbolt/unhook alternator
now go underneath:
-remove flywheel/flexplate shield
-remove torque converter bolts (rotate engine as needed to get each one)
-support transmission (i like to use a scissor jack with a piece of plywood on top to protect the transmission)
-remove bellhousing bolts
-remove motor mount bolts
now give everything a good once over and hook up the puller, make sure you keep a close eye for anything catching as the engine is coming out. some people also remove the hood but i have only come across one swap that i needed to do that.

If you have a camara take pics of things before you pull them off and try and number wires before you pull them apart like 1 on one side and 1 on the other then pull apart then 2 and 3 and so on. It will help later on when you are frustated with it. lol But your harness should lay back down almost right where your wires hook back up but its just one of those things that will take you 30 minutes but could save you a couple hours. I just put my 91's motor back in its not to bad just keep an eye on everything while your pulling it out and setting it back in. Good luck and let us know how it goes

I was able to use a 10mm 6 point socket but then again I have heard different. I got them from under the truck. There was a guy who just cut them off and it worked for him. Im sure you can search engine removal and see the thread on it.
