Unhappy 86 Cherokee 2.5 problems!!! please help lol

Hello everyone, this is my first jeep and i got it for free and im trying to get it to run...better lol it kept blowing the fuel pump (or thats what i was told whent the guy gave it to me) so we eliminated the intank fuel pump and put an inline fuel pump and it starts up and runs for probably 10 or 15 sec before it starts to shake and kinda gurgle and die, if i keep giving it gas it runs smooth but i cant get it to idle correctly, and also i can hear a vaccum leak but cant find it, mabey thats the problem mabey not idk, it has 255k miles on it and the body is in good shap so i dont wanna just junk it. If you guys could throw some ideas out there for me that would be great! If for some reason i cant get this running right im probably just gonna go get a new 2.5 from the junkyard lol, thanks in advance!!!

If you have a vacuum leak that you can hear it is a problem, you need to find it first, make sure your air cleaner is on you will be able to hear it better.

im guessing its tbi, if so unscrew the fuel pressure test port on side of tb and get an an adapter usually local speed shops carry them or online, see what pressure is reading, then momentarily pinch off the return line to see if fuel pressure regulator is working properly, is fuel filter new. id for sure check every vacume line, usually a vacume leak off intake would result as high idle/rpms. do a compression check, its got a lot of miles on that little motor. then test every sinsor with a multimeter. guessing you have already done a tune up ie plugs, wire, rotar, cap, etc.... i know its not really what you wanted to hear, but this will get you started, hope it helps, good luck

thanks for the advice guys, i took it out for a ride yesterday and she ran...very slowly but she ran lol it still wont idle right and she boggs down most of the time when it going, it did sit for about a year before i got it so that might have something to do with it too, i got it up to 27mph and that took me about 30 sec haha i think it might be better if i just swaped the engine for one with less miles =/

suck some seafoam thru the brakbooster hose while engine running then turn off, let sit for 10 min. then start jeep and have a smoke show. this will clean out alot of built up carbon thats in there and should help you out tremendously if its been sitting that long.
