I finally found a couple of decent doors for the Jeep, and it's now the "RGB Jeep" (That has a nice ring to it).
I also decided to tidy up this quarter panel a bit with a few metal patches.
Thank goodness for the fender flare.
This is the only panel that's going to need any actual filler (I'm not fixing every little ding when this thing is going to get hailed on anyways).
So I have a Cherokee that originated from Louisiana, I am in Florida, and corrosion and rust is everywhere except where mechanical parts have been covered with grease and road grim. I have repaired or replaced all I can including having a new PCM programmed and installed. I still have a ground issue after chasing all the grounds I can locate by the manual. This is a 1999 Limited 4X4. I still cannot get a solid ground from the PCM to the A/C, Elect Fan/radiator, and half my dash cluster is not responding (the gauges, tach, speedo etc. Lights all work. So I know since I have 3.2 volts at the replays that it is a very poor grounding issue but short of locating a complete wiring harness and insuring all is good and replacing, I am stumped. I was hoping someone with a rust problem would have clue where those circuits run because everything else now works since I have cleaned grounds. I went as far as unbolting the complete dash and located the ground by the light switch that the manual states is in circuit with the A/C, and ran a new ground all the way back to the negative battery cable. I have not replaced the manual switches on the dash to control the A/C since it has nothing to do with inop functioning of the dash cluster. Maybe they are separate ground issues?

So I've made quite a bit more progress on the Jeep since you last saw it. In fact, it's pretty much roadworthy at this point.
I got the passenger floor pan in, the interior reassembled, as well as a bit of paint on the quarter panel.
Before I start driving it, there are a few mechanical things I need to take care of though:
-P/S Return Line (Slight leak).
-Lower Radiator Hose (Looks pretty rotten).
-Transmission service (Fluid looks good, but the pan gasket leaks slightly).
-Front Brakes (It pulls slightly when braking, so I'm going to do pads, hoses, and slide pins).
-Filler Neck Rubber hose (When we initially replaced the fuel tank/pump we had to cut the filler hose, and instead of paying $50 for a new one, I spliced it together for him with a scrap piece of PVC pipe and part of an old radiator hose).
Anyways, the next phase of this project probably will be giving this thing a cheap scuff and shoot paint job.
I got bored the other night and decided to dust in one of the mismatched doors with some spray can tractor paint.
The match isn't too bad, so I might do the other two doors just for the time being.

Now I just got to find time to do all the maintainence items (After my Exams this week, I should be able to take care of all that this weekend).
It's been a little while since I've made any sort of update on the Jeep, and there's a reason for that . . .
Somebody else has been driving it. Basically, my sister needed something to drive while I fixed her car, so it was gone for about a month. She doesn't know too much about cars, so I doubt that the hood was even lifted in that time. She put about 900 problem-free miles on it without me doing anything to it except changing the oil beforehand (Didn't burn a drop).
I finally got it back last week, but not without some opposition, as she's absolutely fallen in love with it and even offered to buy it from me. I declined since I'd feel more comfortable with her driving a slightly newer less rusty XJ.
Anyways, the night I got it back, I immediately pulled it into the garage, and addressed some much-needed maintenance items such as the front shocks (The previous owner did the rears last year), a steering stabilizer, caliper slide pins, as well as balancing the front tires.
I then installed a new stereo and speakers. There was nothing wrong with the original head unit, I just wanted Bluetooth.
I sold the old head unit on Ebay for $100
Anyways, there are still a few things I'm looking to address on the Jeep if I'm driving it to the National Storm Chaser Summit in Overland Park KS next month.
- Ball Joints, (I found a tiny bit of play in the passenger lower).
- Transmission Fluid Change (Shifts a bit late when really cold).
- Brake hoses (Better safe than sorry)
- Wheel Cylinders (Not leaking, but sitting for 10 years didn't do them any favors).
- Fix wind noise from rotted out inner quarters (I'm just going to close it off with a piece of hard plastic and some construction adhesive for the time being).
- Fix Climate Controls (The heat stops coming out of the dash vent at higher RPM's, so I'm assuming a vacuum leak of some sort).
- Install all my radios/beacon/letter it up (If I do take it, I'll be entering it in the chaser car show).
