Good evening folks. I’m by no means mechanically inclined (carpenter by trade, young cat!) I’ve found myself pulling my xj apart a ton recently. This go around i’ve had a really bad humming and vibrating coming from the front of wheels for maybe 2000+ miles & pin pointed it to the factory wheel bearings. I always invest a couple hours of reading literature and watching videos when i take on these projects. I went ahead and replaced the entirety of both wheel hub assemblies with a ‘Cast’ kit (all components cast oppose to composite. The kit included Cast assembly, rotors & calipers. After putting everything together & doing a test drive around the block every-time i come to a complete stop the jeep seems to grind or jump quickly BUT ONLY once i reach that full stop. No clunking whilst braking up until the point i stop 100%. When i release the brake at idle speed i get the same clunk sound when coming off the brake pedals at idle speed. The sound goes away immediately after it starts rolling from the initial stop and go clunk. Could this be the Axle “spindle” not being tight enough? I know the Torque specs are 175FP. The brakes & wheels work fine UNTIL it reaches a dead stop. Could this be another suspension related issue or axle issue? The sound it 100% coming from the front end.

Chaise after wheel bearing removal. axle shaft/spindle?
You said full cast, so I assume you're aware that there was a change mid-99 between cast and composite rotors and hub assembly. There is a height difference in the center "hat" of the rotor and that needs to match the bearing.

I knew about the change over! That was a contributing factor to me ordering the matching kit(s)…. I was under the impression that had everything matched (new cast assembly to new cast rotors) that everything was peachy?!
with that being said,
What is referred to as a “center hat” & what exactly am i changing, checking, or measuring? Sorry if these are relatively stupid questions. I’m a visual learner & working on anything jeep related is relatively new to me. Thanks your time thus far, Lawson.
