gotta clean it up, paint it, toss that horrible Fram filter away, regasket it, swap a few parts, and slap the ***** in! Never swapped a motor before so this is brand new territory for me and I'm excited.

Quick update. The new-to-me motor is all regasketed and painted, just waiting on the exhaust manifold, and starting the teardown of the jeep.

How come you took the grill and stuff off? I pulled the motor on my Comanche without pulling the radiator or anything.

Just making it easier for me for it to come out and go in, don't have alot of space and also want to clean up alot of the engine bay

Should be coming out in the next day or 2. Decided to pull the whole thing; motor, trans, and tcase, all in one go to make it a bit easier to get those trans bolts out and do my SYE while the tcase is there. I did snap the 2 outer crossmember bolts, granted one snapped 2 years ago lol.

My manual, 2wd Comanche drivetrain was hard to get in all connected. An auto 4wd sounds challenging.

Another update: drivetrain is out! Fairly difficult doing it by yourself, took about 2 days to fish it out and the rain didn't help. Currently swapping parts over to the new motor and waiting on some parts like water pump and thermostat housing gaskets and crank case vents and grommets. Also ordered the Boostwerks Tcase linkage, a relocation bracket for the alternator since I removed the A/C, and trying to figure out why my gift certificate for a set of Brown Dog motor mount brackets isn't working.

So the motor is in and bolted down. Couple of plugs don't have a home (probably to the A/C since that's gone) and a few grounds, as well as an issue I'm having with getting the flex plate lined up with the converter because I forgot to do it when it was out and it won't spin by hand.

Finally put my Advance Adapters SYE I've had for over a year on the tcase, pretty easy when it's out of the vehicle minus those damn heavy duty snap rings.

Old

New. Luckily I had no issues with the 4wd peg being too long.

Found someone on Ebay selling an alternator relocation bracket so I did that, sits right where the A/C Compressor use to be, just need a shorter belt.

Have a Boostwerks Tcase linkage aswell.

And to top it all off, some beefy Brown Dog motor brackets. I one a gift certificate for them back in Witnerfest and finally got to use it, but there was some issues with it having no balance, Tim at Brown Dog was able to get everything squared away and in a few days I had them, 10/10 customer service.

Best photo i have of the mounts. Bit of color to livin up the motor.

Other than that I'm still fighting with the trans. Still need to fill the trans and tcase up, and recharge my battery since I killed it bumping the starter to spin the flexplate. Fingers crossed I'll have it running the end of the month, I don't get to work on it much with it being at my mom's, me living 30 minutes away, and working almost 50 hours a week

I am interested in that alternator relocation bracket, saw it online but i would need to change that bracket that the fan clutch sits on. I have an 89, so i have the older bracket that the AC unit is held in with 2 long bolts horizontal.
