You will need to slightly modify them to work on a Cherokee. You have to press out the inserts inside the bushings at one end of the shock and press in some new bar pins. Super easy to do with a couple sockets, some tubing and a bench vise.

So pull out the OEM pins and fabricate a new set, both front and rear?

No its easier then that. You dont have to make anything. For the front, you will need to pull the bar pins out of your old shocks as pictured above. Then on the JK front shocks, you need to press out the metal sleeve from the bottom bushing. Then you take your old bar pins and put them back in the new JK front shocks from where you pressed out the metal sleeve. For the JK rear shocks, all you need to do is press out the metal sleeve from the bottom bushing. Then install.

You running the stock springs up front with the red/black JK shocks? I'm wondering if I shouldn't leave the front shocks alone with the standard springs..??

Raz - Yep, bone stock everything. Pretty sure everything is original with 218k miles as well (very minor sagging). I finally got a chance to do a decent length drive in it and the JK shocks are so much nicer then what I had on there. It really does ride amazing now. Do all 4 shocks and dont look back.

Picture for height reference.

5-Speed,

Did you have any trouble removing the pins from the front shocks? The shop just phoned me, said they used a square press to try removing, which ended up bending the pin as the pin did not want to come out. They don't even want to attempt trying to remove the other. I'm wondering if your OEM shocks are different than mine?

Anyhow, all else installed fine Just left dealing with seemingly impossible pin removal from the OEM front shocks..?

Would anyone have a set of old shocks laying around I could buy from you for the pins?

Thanks,
Raz

Raz - Nope didnt have any issues getting them out. Just soaked them in some WD40 and used my bench vice. It was honestly super easy. Getting the roll pins out of the JK shocks was the worst part.

I will have to check and see if I have any bar pins left but I think EZearl got my last set.

Interesting. They must be rusted inside, thanks! That would be awesome if you had a set, or anyone. Any idea where I may be able to pick up a set otherwise?

Regarding the JK shocks, you mean it was difficult pressing out bottom metal sleeve from the fronts? That's all that need to come out, no?

Yes the metal sleeve was the worst part about the JK shocks. Both front and rear need them removed. The bar pins were simple to get in and out. And even if they are rusted, they are surrounded by rubber so they shouldnt really stick to it. Ill check tonight to see if I have an extra set.

Thanks 5, appreciate it! I can't figure why the shop had such trouble removing the pin. They only tried one, and don't want to attempt the other as they struggled with the first. The one they tried removing, must be rusted tight?

The good news, they didn't have any trouble removing the metal sleeves from the JK shocks.. The rears are installed and the fronts are ready for pins..

Hey guys, Happy 4th.. some news..

She rides excellent on the Crown HD 4886185 with the red/black JK Shocks Very happy with the feel and only in the rear currently. I wasn't able to get the front JK shocks installed due to the pin mishap described above. I ended up needing to buy a cheap front shock to get the truck off the rack, so a bit of a funky front end feel currently. If anyone knows where I can find a set of OEM bar pins or an alternative that would be an exact fit would be very helpful.. Pretty please

She definitely sits higher in the rear with the Crown 4886185. But again, a very nice ride on the JK shocks. To be exact, she's 31.75" from ground to fender lip with stock 225 75R 15 tires each having 34 pounds of air pressure. The front is sitting at 31". So I have a bit of of rake currently. A couple thoughts..

1) Do I need new front springs to level her out?
2) I'm thinking slightly larger tires would look nice. Can I simply go larger tires on the stock 15" wheels? If so, any suggestions?

Pictures coming soon..

Thanks,
Raz

What's up guys..

Decided to go with a set of Crown front coil springs hoping it will bring the front end level with the rear. Crown suggested part # CRO52001125 as these are the suggested front springs to be matched with the Crown 4886185 leaf springs. Dropped her off this morning for install, crossing my fingers.

If all goes well, looking to go with a set of slightly larger tires to fill the wheel wells. Any suggestions? Okay to use stock 15" wheels?

Thanks,
Raz
