Hey everyone. So I am looking at buying my uncle the arb 1250 awning for his birthday. He takes his grandkids different places and takes a big canopy that takes up a lot of room and is a little heavy for him. I was just wondering how these awnings mounted. I've tried looking but the reviews I see only focus on the setup and not the mounting of it. I have seen a few talk about how they mounted it, but they were custom jobs they stated. On ARB website it says they are easy mounting, but I don't see any pictures or anything. Maybe I'm missing something idk haha.

I've made my own awning that I use, but it's not as conveniently stored as arb haha

 

Maybe something like this, using an L bracket and some bar-clamp mounts?

 

I have the same awning on my XJ. I purchased 3 of the round Fourtreks "awning" brackets (www.fourtreks.com) which fit onto my roof rack (photo is from their website). I leave the brackets on the roof rack permanently but remove the awning when I don't need it (takes about 10 minutes to put the awning back on but yes, it is heavy). Brackets are definitely spendy but rock solid.

Alternatively, ARB sells a bracket which can be attached to a vehicle in a lot of different ways. I have it set up to attach to a Thule roofrack on my wife's Volvo. Check out ARB's website under "Awnings and accessories." With that set up, I can alternate between the two vehicles without much effort.

If you want to go all in, that awning has a mosquito netting enclosure that is pretty awesome.

 

those are nice clamps. How does the awning cover hold up so far? Does it handle the elements and road wind?

 

The awning is great. I have had it for 4-5 years (also I misspoke- I have the ARB 2500 awning) and other than being a little dirty on the outside, it has zero wear. One thing that really helps is the cover that hides the awning when it isn't in use. My cover is pretty beat up from driving through burned out areas of WA but the awning itself is untouched. When deployed, it handles wind and rain really well. When it is hot and the bugs are out, I feel like it is the single best purchase I made for the truck. As far as road wind goes, when the roof rack is fully loaded I have the least aero dynamic vehicle out there so I am not sure about the effect of the awning. I suspect it isn't too bad on its own, however. Couple of photos with the awning set up.
