Well I got my Jeep stuck for the first time this morning and had to get yanked out. Probably could have got out on my own but why bring a friend and a rope if you arent going to use them.

This morning? What was it, 2 am? LOL
Like your thinking though, don't go alone...saved yourself a lot of aggravation, haha
So while I am waiting for POR 15 to dry figure I would play with the driver's side power seat bases. Have 2. One works but the forward and back direction clicks a little. The other one forward and back works great but the other two don't even move. Stripped worm gears in the motors it turns out. So I found that you can remove the whole motor and spin the metal worm gear out of the tube in one piece if you just remove the dowel holding it in. PB Blast'ed it, found one of my smaller crappy Philips head screwdrivers, and banged it out from the outside. Turns out the 2 motors for the up and down are the same part #. I circled in the one picture where the dowel is. See the little metal disc. About the size of a watch battery. No idea what it does. So I figure I will keep the one base that I am going to use apart so I can clean that up and POR 15 at a later date.
Hey man, it's all about getting in there, getting it done, and doing it right. You are on the right path, my friend. Baby steps to greatness, haha
X2 on this. We each have our own reason(s)/ goals for what we do to/on our XJ's but it's that love for them that we each have in common. I actually enjoy seeing/hearing what you're doing Ralph so I would encourage you not to underestimate any impact you may be having on CF members or ideas you may spark in them.
Speaking of baby-steps, I finally took the time to remove the thermostat in preparation of using the oxalic acid method of cleaning out my XJ's cooling system prior to its overhaul and getting all the parts I've had laying around for months installed.
I guess I didn't pay much attention to it when I replaced the t-stat a couple of yrs ago but, for all the PO's neglect of the suspension and steering-related components, it appears he did take care of the cooling system as the passages don't have the mineral deposits and rust that is commonly seen. Hopefully that bodes well for my overhaul.
