going to do the wj swap on my xj. found a guy on fb that has the knuckles and spacers with calipers for 100$. im going to run the 02 sport trac rotors so I don't have to drill. I did read some place you need to space the rotor because it hits the caliper? is this true when running these rotors? also I am going to run ruff stuff gm cross over steering with tre's. will I need the taperd inserts for a over the knuckle swap? I want to run a off set tre's on the tie rod. what do I run for drag link? do I run a high angle on the drag link side at pitman arm and knuckle? I know I need sway bar relocation and track bar relocation. thanks for the help guys.

 

its better to ream the knuckles then using the inserts, iron rock offroad sells the correct rotors already redrilled. iv e heard some people have fit issues w/ the sport trac rotors ? i just got wj rotors & redrilled them.i went otk gm 1 ton steering w/ ruff stuff offset tre on tie rod,i have straight tre both ends of drag link, but a offset would have also worked on the knuckle side . my brakes & steering work great, its a worth while upgrade.

 

Yea the gm cross over steering kit u can choose high angle they suggest? That work on knuckel and pitman arm. You suggest using wj rotors and no other spacing is needed other then the jks plate that needs to be welded?

 

Make sure you get the Akebono calipers, its cast into the back. The Teves are know to warp rotors & the Akebonos were recall replacements.

 

I read so many diff things on people doing the swap xj upper bj and wj lower, wj knuckels and jks spacer welded. If I did a sport trac rotor I need to space caliper where it bolts to the knuckel? Would that be needed if drilling wj rotors?

i have the high angle tre at pitman w/ a standard straight at knuckle, wj rotors redrilled w/ a jks spacer worked perfect for me.

 

If I do wj rotors do you need to space the caliper back off the knuckel a 1/4 inch?

Xj unit bearings

 

No spacer needed (other than the spacer welded on the knuckles of course) if you use WJ rotors. I'd also recommend high angle TREs on the drag link both ends for longevity. Also, buy a reamer from Barnes for the 1ton TREs instead of the inserts. I'm in the process of the exact same swap. Ruffstuff offset TREs etc

 

How come some guys need a 1/4 spacer on the caliper bracket?

 

I've never done the swap with sport trac rotors, but I believe that is the only time you should need them if everything else is correct.

That is odd. Does he say what year the unit bearings were from? I've read some accounts of people still needing the spacer when using the "older" unit bearings. Probably something you'll have to find out when you actually do the swap.
