Are the tires you have currently the ones you bought brand new? So you feel safe enough to drive them 1100 miles so you know the condition of the tires and done the proper care to make them last...
If you do plan on driving with the use tires try and have 2 spares just in case one decides to bubble up and blow out...

Gas mileage shouldn't be that bad considering you have 3.55 gears with a 5speed?
Battle did great with 3.55 gears with the 5speed on 31s 3.5" lift on his rig

Unfortunately I haven't driven on these tires. And I can't expect much from them, I bought the Jeep for $300. With the load I'll be carrying I can't have that much space dedicated to spares. May just get the new ones cause eBay is running a deal through the end of August. And you are correct in the 3.55's.

Wish I had a roof rack already! Still debating on what all I plan on cramming in the Cherokee but it should be interesting to say the least.

Id wait! It will save you possibly some gas millage and tred for sure. What tires are you planning on getting? Although if you dont think they will hold up then id get the new ones now. Are the old ones really worn?

Here are the current tires.

Any suggestions why my car is chugging coolant? And it isn't leaking anywhere. Low Oil pressure but I check both and they don't seem to be leaking into each other. Only things I did when I had the engine out was the oil pan gasket and rear main seal. Engine ran fine prior to engine swap. Only thing new in the engine bay are the battery and cables, exhaust headers, gaskets and the 99s intake manifold.

Bike rack is basically done. Mounts to the top of the hinge. I made it level but think it would work just as well in line with the body. Just need some longer bolts that match the hinge threads and some nuts to retain the bike rack. Paint it black and it's done.

So I have to be out of the shop today and my clutch isn't working. There is good pressure throughout the pedal travel but I feel like it is the throw out bearing isn't moving. The pedal travel seems odd for some reason too. Like it doesnt ever get easier and the bottom of the pedal. Or it could be the assembly in the bell housing some how. I took the slave cylinder off of the bell housing and tried manually press it and it's not moving. Although I could just not be pushing hard enough. I am going to try and bleed the clutch and see if that will press the throw bearing harder? I don't know. It's already a firm clutch compared to the 5 or 6 manual vehicles I've driven.

Been a while since I posted, for me at least. Got the donor to the scrap yard and the project to the mechanics. Hopefully they can finish a few things, do the alignment, etc etc. And not take an arm and a leg while they are at it.

Shop is almost done with my XJ. Fixed a leak here and there, pressure tested it and all was good. Got it up to temp and ran like a top. Only issue is the clutch. They couldn't bleed it because the bleeder screw was stripped out. I had noticed that as well when installing it. Should be road worthy soon enough. Will need the following sooner rather than later in order to "finish":
  • DirtBound Mojave bumper
  • Custom Rear Bumper
  • Paint (once in New Mexico)
  • still need a driver's window regulator :/
  • 31x10.5 r15 wheels
  • 15x8 Steel Rims
  • DirtBound battery tray
  • Bumpstops
  • Corbeau Seats

Side Note: Remember my daily driver that broke down, oh, 6 months ago (see post #7), well finally have that turd all back together after working on head gaskets slowly. White smoke coming off of the passenger head where it had originally sprung the leak. I think it is just burning off the old coolant. At least that's the hope.

I'm glad your able to get a set...
These 97+ doors are rarer than Comanches and certain parts are a pain to find...
Lately the junkyards around me are having 1 xj to 15 zj/wjs/Libby's...

Yeah it's been a long time coming, just glad the community here was able to help out.

So one of the goals of this build is to modernize: electronics, suspension, interior, etc etc. So I was looking at seats since my driver's seat brackets, like many, is broken, and they are both a bit rusty. So initially I looked at Corbeau as they have been spoken highly of and look pretty good. With a bolt in bracket option all sounded good, spendy, but good nonetheless. But then I got a crazy idea. I can get a set of 2014 Jeep Cherokee leather seats, all three mind you, for $600-$800. I think that is the route I'm going to go. I realize there will be a fair amount of fabrication work to get there but it anyone know someone with a new Cherokee and would grab some dimensions for me I would greatly appreciate it!

Edit - As nice as the seat look I am fairly certain there would be clearance issues with the rear bench as the seat doesn't have as large of wheel wheel clearance.

I didn't think the day would come. I thought their existence was a myth.

Picked the Jeep up from the shop and it is running great. Get the interior in, will come back out when the passenger floor pan get repaired but it is finally looking like a car again. Put the carpet in from way back when I dyed it and will be getting some nice floor mats eventually.

Need to figure out speakers and of now it only has one functional one and that would make for a really long car ride to New Mexico.
