Better not to re-engineer, fasteners are specified for a reason. Sure higher grades are "stronger" but more brittle as well. In an application given a side load a grade 5 bolt will yield slightly but that same force may cause a grade 8 bolt to shear.

To narrow down the whirrling sound, could remove front driveshaft and see if sound disappears.

Apparently the harness for the #2 o2 sensor got snagged on something.

Ripped the wires right outta the sensor. Replaced it, reset the computer, ran like crap, ecu threw a po138. Was about to swap it for another when I had a brain function. Sure enough, popped the little 15a fuse. Swapped it, reset the computer again, now she's running like a champ.

Also, swapped out my 33s for 31s. What a difference. Eventually I'll finish building the 8.8 and regear the front, and she'll go back to 33s. But for now the 31s sure make her drive happy. Looks a bit weird, lol, but it'll do for now.

I'm the one who adds more insulation and more sound deadening...

Don't know what YJs shipped with but Grade 8 is equivalent to Class 10.9 for hardness. Definitely don't want Grade 5 (Class 8.8) junk on suspension.

Rear? A lot of times the little wire holder will come loose and lay on the spinning driveshaft.

X2

Just happened to me on my first test drive yesterday...among some other issues.

It was good to hear it fire up after 7 months, though, LOL

I've got a rental-gade trailhawk want to wheel? Lols. I'm missing the JK I had last time. I'm only 50 minutes from the northmost part of the Pine Barrens.

Most of the major suspension fasteners are not marked with a hardness because they are engineered fasteners.

First time I heard of grade 5 fasteners referred to as "junk" if you investigate a lil you'll see they have their purpose.

I still haven't put my headliner back in, but I filled the gaps where my roof ribs had separated from the panel with a non-hardening butyl rubber rope caulk and added mass-loaded vinyl sound deadener to the flat panels and it really shut the noise down... I went from the "empty dumpster" to completely forgetting there's no headliner installed. The only real reminder is how hard the AC has to work to cool off the cabin on hot days.
