Hi all Google brought me here after I discovered this in my passengers floor..
And since Keeping it in the garage all the time isn't an option... I would like to thank you for helping me find, and Hopefully fix the issue.


















The gloves would stick to the selant so I sprayed the gloves with wd-40 and that helped me smooth it out in there and really press it down in the cracks.












If that fixes the leak I will weld the whole piece back in, but for now just the little tack and some duck tape should take care of it.

 

My leak ended up coming from the engine bay at the firewall and the wheel well. I used RTV sealant on the weld that looks bad and fixed the problem!

 

thats a clean job , pretty much same as i did , but i recommend that you seal the firewall as well on the side of the windshield there is a curve so there is no problem but on the side of the engine there is the firewall where they meet that you must seal it too from drivers side to pass...

 

mine has been dry so far, however I also sealed the blower motor at the passenger firewall. It uses the same type of seal and mine was leaking there too.

 

Hmm, You wouldn't have any pictures of that area would you? I have not had any rain yet, but in case I have to do keep working on this leak any help would be nice.

I'm not sure what you mean? the area where the fire wall connects to the cowl base?


Thanks, I'll check it out. Allthough it's clear in my case I think, that the water was dripping down from the top of the dash, so I don't think blower, but I'll look at sealing it anyway.

 

duck.....i will take a picture of the area tonight. It is what fixed my problem. But, upon searching for a solution, there seems to be many different reasons as to why the water is leaking. Instead of looking in one area, I took apart my entire interior and dash and started the process of elimination. Jeep was down for a week, but I was able to solve and fix my problem. There is not a quick fix, if you are going to track down the leak, spend some time and do it right!

 

I'll install a permanent drain plug before I take the dash all the way out.

I've had to take the dash out of one before and I'm just not going to do it unless the a/c or heater core go bad. :knock on wood:

I mean, the only time this normally sees rain is when I'm driving it in the rain, its just an odd thing that it got parked out of the garage because of some work we were doing on the house.

but I set out to find it and fix it if I could anyway. so if you could get pic's I'd appreciate it. but don't go out of your way. I think I might have gotten it with this cowl thing.

 

Does anyone know for sure if there are drains from the cowl and exactly where they would be if there are? Please don't respond if you don't know 100% for sure, I have read through all of those other threads for about 2 hours and never seen a pic of one or anyone say exactly where the location is.
It is not my windshield, my antenna or any seam leaking either.
It is coming through the fresh air inlet. SO I would like to clear the drains first if there are any.It is not a bad leak but a leak.
if that does not work then I will reseal it.

The 3M window-weld stuff is great. We use it for vapor barriers on BMW/MINI on the doors. I have used this stuff all around my Jeep fixing little leaks. Works great.

I have the same problem but it doesnt bother me to bad because i dont have carpets, so all i have to do it just pull the drain plug and be done with it. im just to lazy to go and open up the cowl again to seal it.

 

Very nice and informative thread. I used this around last thanksgiving when I was doing the heater core replacement. I used a TON of silicon around the air intake vent but apparently wasn't enough as the leak is back. I really don't want to go through the whole dash removal again but I do have a handful of screws that didn't all find homes.

I'm digging the "access" hole some of you have done but it's also possible the leak is from somewhere else as it's far worse than what it was prior. I'll keep the thread posted to my updates.

Why can't you just drill a drain hole in the bottom of that area so the water will drain out instead of into the interior?
