I don't blame ya, it was a mean truck, killed me to see it die like that, I'd go claim the Ford though, I've just always had a soft spot for the 4x4 Fords those years, my dad had a 1977 pretty much stock & my uncle had a 1978 on 40's, he couldn't keep a drive shaft in it because of how hard his drivelne angles were

Looks like crap to me. Just cause you can do doesn't mean you should LOL.
Innovative? yes. Desireable? not in the least bit.
I can't believe this is in our fab section.

LOL I have to give the OP props for ingenuity! Way to think out of the bed frame. On a more comical note, if you had attached it to the roof with duck tape instead of welding on gutter mounts it could have been a classic Red Green project!
I'm curious how you finish it off...

What have you built lately? can you even weld?

Next time I'll be sure and claim I spent hundreds of dollars since that seems to be the pro thing to do.

With the ends trimmed, you are completely right. When i saw the title of this thread I had FULL intentions of busting your ***** HARD....but after looking at it, were it trimmed and some sort of second level added, I just think its good "shadetree" engineering. If you dont like it, dont do it. NO mod is for everyone, or every XJ for that matter.

And just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you should always share it.
What have you built lately? can you even weld?

The irony is that besides the thread title, and for not cutting the ends off of it, no one would know where I got the angle iron from.

I ran out literally before it could be finished.
Look at it this way: I built this to serve one singular purpose.
At the time I ran out of paint and then just forgot about it.
Honestly I forgot about this whole project until today, when my email
notified me of comments.
Life happens. Every time I look up there, I'm thinking "hey gotta finish that"
But other crap comes along.
It will get paint.
It will be finished.
