    i did that already. as i was trying to remove the stuck oil filter the damm plyer slipped and broke the distributor but i got the top end completely assembled. every thing is back on. torq'd to specs, im only praying the block isnt cracked.. or i ll would have wasted all this time and money for nothing.

    You re a savoir! i m a novice mechanic that decided to do a head swap on a cherokee. Its a learn as you go thing. But I'm nearing my end of the ordeal with one OMG i should have done. I trusted the PO's mechanic to say it was only a blown head gasket.. I should have had the block tested for cracks or warpage.

    Well, the next step would be a "leakdown test" - the cylinder is run up to TDC compression (top dead centre, both valves closed) and pressurised using compressed air. You can then listen for the leak, by listening to where air is escaping.

    - Intake = intake valve
    - Exhaust = exhaust valve
    - Oil fill = rings
    - Coolant bubbling = head gasket (likely) or cracked block/head (less likely.)

    i put a compression check on my 98 cherokee 4.0 and got a 150 on 1-5 and #6 was only at 30 could that mean bad valve or ring even after putting oil down it got a 30 on #6 thought it was 5 before but all electric checks out

    was recomended to you having trouble with 98 cherokee 4.0 at first was showing 5 mis fire 6 staying open when running sounds like miss 1234 will bogg down when shorted 5 reves up 6 no change cleaned injecters new wires rotor cap sparkplugs brain all conn showing 13 getting p1282 code changed fuse still running like it has miss is it fuel pump or weak cylinder just got it two weeks ago and other vehicle broke down my only means for my family dont want them standed also over 45 mph shakes give it gas stops until levels out same problem occurs please help
