I'm one year into this green Jeep affair. Lovin' it! This forum has been a tremendous help for wrapping my head around not only what my Jeep has, but what it can have, too. A year of research and work has turned an old grocery-getter into a beasty funbox! It's definitely a Jeep thing!
I had a problem very similar with my 86 Cherokee, when I would pull inside latch nothing and outside button was missing, you need the door, look from I side cab and see if you can pull off trim panel, it could be pressed against door frame not allowing this, when I got Cherokee it had already been worked on and someone had pushed button into door frame, so I took a flashlight and started poking around with a screwdriver and realized the little metal rod connecting to latch mechanism had come loose and fallen down, I was able to push backwards on latch to open door which allowed me to remove door panel to fix. It could also be your lock latch rod instead, you will be able to tell once you get in there. Hope this helps.
