transmission problem

my jeep grand cherokee 2000 model 4.7 v8 can not drive when put in any gear.I put only 3 litters of transmission fluid after i drained the old fluid and later realize it was way less then required.it drove only for 5 kilometers and stop running and i had to tow back. What migth be the problem?

trans fluid cools the tranny as well as lubricates it. it also is a hydraulic fluid. you may have burned up your tranny running it without enough fluid. you could try adding the correct amount (you did not say if you did that or not) and try driving it then. might get lucky.

Without enough fluid, the pump will cavitate causing bubbles in the fluid. This will cause the clutches to slip and overheat, burn the faces of the plates, and stop working. Let's hope you didn't total the transmission!

So if full of fluid(proper levels), it is creating very fine bubbles, enough that only bubbles are visible on the dipstick, what is my issue?

Overfilling can also cause cavitation.
