I have a couple questions regarding my front driveshaft. I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 and I just did a 2.5 coil lift. I have googled and after getting some mixed answers I wanna get to the bottom of this. I do not want to Granade my front driveshaft I would like to do the u joint conversion on the t case as well as the diff. Money is somewhat tight so I’m wondering about the best options to go about this iv heard of people using the yokes from a zj. Can anybody help with this?

With only a 2" lift, you don't need to convert to u-joints. There's a length adjustment in the shaft just behind the front CV at the diff. Loosen the clamp nut, pull out 1/2" of shaft, then tighten the nut. There is a small amount of spline inside the CV joint that allows for length changes as the suspension flexes. You just have to lengthen the main shaft tube enough to keep the CV joint splines within it's limit of motion.

You COULD change the CV to a u-joint, but changing the diff yoke is not an easy job to do right.

The front shaft on my 2000 has a CV at the diff and a double-cardon at the T/case. The double-cardon is an open CV joint.

Problem is I may go higher in the future but will definitely look into the shaft like you told me. My buddies dad has the v8 247 in his wj and after he did his 2 inch lift his front driveshaft Grenaded going down the highway. Although I know that my 4.0 front driveshaft is factory longer then his. He has a front driveshaft from a 96 zj v8. The differential side of the shaft he has out of that zj has the same bolt pattern as my front diff but then it goes into a u joint. The tcase side is also a u joint. So question is would his driveshaft out of that zj bolt right up to my front diff and then I just have to change out the tcase yoke to fit this shaft? I know a guy that said he would give me a zj yoke for the tcase but it has to be machined down to the proper size. Does this sound familiar?
