97 XJ 4.0 engine into 93 ZJ (with AW4)
We replaced the engine in our 93-4 ZJ (with 93 AW4 for 2/4 transfer case) with a 1996 XJ 4.0. Vibration caused flexplate to crack. Upon inspection we had placed the 1996 XJ Flexplate and Torque converter into the 93 ZJ AW4. It bolted fine but again upon research the shaft housings are a bit different.
My question is, now that we have it open can anyone cite any reason why we could not just bolt the ZJ flexplate and ZJ torque convertor onto the XJ engine??
Here are some research pictures to note the differences: ZJ is on the left,
Now a couple questions remain is the XJ internally balanced? Also the timing holes, should line up ...
Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thx,
