Crown vic 8.8 in a zj?
Well the best man for my wedding has offered me a free 8.8 out of a crown vic he bought to part out. I know people use 8.8s from explorers all the time on XJs. The car is coil sprung so thats a plus (I think). Anybody done this or know if it would work?

from a quick search the lug pattern seems to be different, 28 spline instead of 31, and the width is also different. if it has disc brakes i wouldn't say not to a free axle, but i don't think it's suitable for a zj.

lugs are 5x4.5. What is the difference in width? I dont wheel mine terribly hard and will likely never have any tires bigger than 33s. Hes offering as a wedding gift so if I can make it work thatd be great, but if its gonna cost alot for no gain then no.
here's what I was referring to : Width between the wheel mounting surfaces on the Explorer is 59.5"; google says the police/Crown Vic 8.8" is closer to 65" between wheel mounting surfaces. i also think after market support is not as good for the crown vic, so if it doesn't have the gearing you want you should look into that too, see if it's worth it or not. here's a thread on naxja: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39926 |
Its too wide and not really worth the work to me for the swap.

BUT, it's a gift and you could probably sell it.
|
Ok. Seems its not worth the work to swap it. He said hell figure something else out. Thanks for the help.
